We stayed here for a wedding and loved it. The hotel is pet-friendly; our 18pound pooch was allowed to stay with us for free! All of the pets stay on the first floor with easy access to their "dog park" which is a sandy lane around the property where doggie business can be done. We were upgraded to an oceanfront room upon arrival. We had an extra-large porch/balcony on which our little dog (and us) loved to lounge and watch the ocean. They'll ask you to keep the pooch out of the common areas like the pool and outdoor restaurants, which was OK with us since she likes the beach best. From checkin to checkout service was friendly. We enjoyed the beauty of the property, a very large room with king bed, great cocktails at the pool, and the wide sandy beach. I would agree with others to bring your own beach chairs and liters of good water.

“Great for a conference”

We were here the beginning of April for a conference. I think our rates was $249. Although the room was pretty small it was perfect for us. I would have liked an oceanfront room but we checked in late and forgot to ask. I would stay here again - the pools are very nice (it looked like one was geared for children). The staff was always helpful and I loved that it was right on the beach, which I walked every morning. I felt that service was a little slow in the restaurants but that could just be my Yankee impatience with the Southern pace.

“Not a great place to stay”

The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa

Stayed here for a conference; room was overpriced. Room small, carpet had stains and was frayed in places. No sink and dressing area outside of bathroom. The "Heavenly Bed" was lumpy and seemed old. Booked an ocean view room which was $300 a night. Balcony overlooked roof of restaurant which had an extremely loud exhaust system on top. Could not sit on balcony was so loud we could not hear ourselves talk! Asked to be moved and they put us 3 rooms over. It was still loud and overlooked roof. We booked this room 1 in year in advance. I would never return to this Westin or recommend it to friends. We stayed at the Hilton in Hilton Head Island 2 years ago and it was much nicer.

I stayed here for a conference in April 2008. The conference rate was $249/night + taxes. I wouldn't have paid this for personal travel, but it was nice since the conference was taking place here.

Pros: You are in Hilton Head, very nice pool area, great workout room, clean, great wireless internet connectivity and friendly staff.

Cons: Cost was a little much given the accomodations and the food served was a little pricey for the quality. Food wasn't horrible, just wasn't that great either.

Since my family and I have vacationed on Hilton Head Island 4 of the last 5 years I feel qualified to give you the following advice. If you are staying for a couple of nights and you can get the rate down, I would recommend it. If you are staying more than a couple of nights, you can spend about the same money and get a 1 or 2 bedroom condo with much more space.

“Pretty Good - Could have been better”

The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa

2 Apr 2008

No major complaints- especially since I got this room for a great price on Travelzoo. (It was $129 on a holiday weekend) I will just give a quick PRO/CON list- hope you find it helpful.

PROS:
Pretty hotel
Upscale decor in lobby
Lovely tropical landscaping
Comfortable room/bed
VERY clean room
Nice bathroom
Right on the beach
Starbucks in the room and sometimes the lobby
Nice/helpful front desk staff

CONS:
1. Balcony was filthy- trash left on balcony
2. Balcomy was also flooded, uneven concrete floor had several inches of rain water setting.
3. Again with the balcony: instead of a railing it has a 4 foot high concrete wall- so if you sit on the balcony there is no view- except of the wall.
4. At 4pm all the towel carts were closed and locked in pool area-hunted for a staff member- finally found someone and they just shrugged- "sorry no more towels." I asked at the gym and she said they couldn't give towels out for the pool. So I had to drag the kids back to the room to get our bath towels- and of course that meant we had damp towels after our shower the next morning.

Still- I give this place 4 stars because it is lovely with comfy and CLEAN rooms- just a few improvements are needed to make this place fabulous.
