“Not that great!”

Hilton Head Island Beach & Tennis Resort

23 Jun 2008

The first problem we experienced was inconsistency. We went with some friends and we paid the same for two different rooms, however; they were not of the same value. The rooms were totally different. One room had the buckbeds madeup with covers and everything, but the other one didn't even have covers on the buckbeds. The same room also had a wall that was a big mirror and the other way had only a mirror in the bathroom. Again the same room had a table outside on the balcony, but the other one did not. Once again, the same room contained a big trashcan in the kitchen area while the other room had no trashcan in the kitchen area; no big trashcan at all in the whole room.
Another inicident that was inconvient, was the fact that when we asked for more towels, they told us we have to wash them ourselves and we had to do that before we left anyways. So, if you don't want to clean up and wash your clothes like you are at home, then this is not the place for you. If you want to continue to slave around the house and wash your towels, then this is just the place for you.
Also, I didn't like when we were locked out of the pool just because a storm had passed. I saw no lightening what so ever and the pool was locked because they wait two hours after the last lightening strike. The sun came out and we could not swim with our own common sense. I understand not letting children do it because they may not know any better, but I am a full grown adult and I should get to decided if I want to swim after or during a storm. There was no one at the pool to tell us why it was closed and so I called security. I asked the security if they could give me a call in the hotel room and let us know when they opened the pool, but she said no. "Ma'am we are too busy to do that, we have too many cars coming in today! We don't have time for that!"
There are also too many rules as well. They have so many odd rules, that there is a list handed out. They even make you pay a thirty dollar fee if you lock yourself out of your room, which is not on the "list". They have to harass people everytime they enter the pool and ask for his/her last name and room number everytime people entered. In one hour we were asked our name three times, that was so aggervating. There is a size limit on coolers brought into the pool area.
A good thing is it is very close to the beach and pool. The pool is right beside the beach and that is cool. There is also a volleyball net that is real close to the pool on the beach area. It also has a nice view if you have the beach side room. It is a place to get away for the weekend.

Rooms are very very small. The children's bunks they advertise are actually sleeping shelves in the hallway, not beds (we stored our luggage there). We were in a one bedroom in Bldg. A so the two bedroom units may be larger, but I don't know. Yes the ocean front rooms actually face the ocean but unless you are on a high floor you can't see over the brush. We walked on the beach to the property next door to the left and booked our next trip there. Yes, it was more expensive, but well worth the price.

“Peaceful resort”

My family just returned from our stay in Hilton Head Island Beach & Tennis Resort, and we really enjoyed the trip. Our building, Admiral's Row, was closer to the ocean than the others and our room was oceanfront so we were blessed with a gorgeous view and were able to hear ocean waves all the time.

As for the area, we have been to lots of southern beaches and this is one of our favorites. Not only is it closer to our home than others, but we didn't see nor hear anyone drinking, partying, cussing or acting wild; the environment was very family oriented and peaceful. There are beautiful trees all over the island, and every neighborhood and shopping center we saw looked classy and well-maintained. The resort was no exception as all the flowers and landscaping, tennis courts, and the two pools looked well maintained also. Another plus is there were security guards near the entrance who monitored every incoming vehicle.

Our condo, number 206A, was in the perfect location as we had an awesome view from our balcony and we even saw dolphins on two separate days. Shortly after we arrived a maintenance man brought a new screen door as the one in place had a hole in it. The kitchenette area was nicely furnished and the white cabinets and refrigerator were clean, but one of the stove eyes didn't work. We decided to sleep on the sleeper sofa since the bed was too soft (not good for a bad back), but the sleeper sofa was not entirely comfortable so we used a blow-up mattress. The condo needs new pillows as the ones they have look stained. One of our boys enjoyed sleeping in the bunk while the other slept in the bedroom and they had no complaints though. The condo seemed smaller than we expected, and it needs to be updated as it is decorated in 1980's mint green, peach and dusty rose colors. I love interior design, and if I owned the condo I would completely remodel it except for the kitchen cabinetry. The bathroom has unattractive, old fish wallpaper which was loose in some spots, a stained, dirty-looking bathtub and older fixtures. It would have been nice to have a second bathroom or at least a 1/2 bath too. Having said that, for the rates we paid this week, it was worth it; the rates are much higher after this week. Check-out was 10:00 a.m. and fortunately we were ready to leave earlier than that because the janitors came in at 9:15 a.m.

Overall, this island seemed so wonderful and the resort did too. We would like to come back and check out other condos in this building.

We searched for weeks before deciding to stay at HHI Beach & Tennis Resort. We wanted to be in an area where we could afford to be in a beach front condo. We found our condo on VacationRentals411.com and I have to say, we are more than pleased - we fell in love! The villas are designed well for small families and well equipped so you can stay in if you want and be very comfortable. We cooked breakfast and lunch at the condo and ate dinners out. The location is great and although it is an older property, it is maintained very well, the 24 hour security is comforting and it is a family-friendly property. The condos are very quiet even thouh most are full now for Spring Break; we haven't heard a single neighbor! We will be staying here again!
