We recently stayed at the Beachwalk when we were in town for a wedding. The room smelled moldy or musty the whole time. The bed was all right. No pillow top or feather pillows. The bathroom was tiny. The air conditioning was noisy. You can walk to the beach or drive a short distance and park closer to the beach. For the money it was all right.

I could never say enough about the Beachwalk Hotel. The staff is outstanding. They are very personable and will always do whatever they can to make your stay an enjoyable one. Some I have gotten to know personally and they go out of there way to make sure I have everything I could possibly want or need. I have sent others to stay there as well, and they have returned singing their praises. The rooms are very clean and breakfast is wonderful! I visit every April and try to go back at least one more time during the year. I have said on many occasions that if I were given a week free at the Westin, I would still rather be at the Beachwalk. They are just family to me now.

We stayed here one night the week of October 7th, mostly because the Holiday Inn Oceanside closer to the beach would not honor a coupon from one of those travelers coupon books. Beachwalk did honor their's.

Though oceanside is better, as Beachwalk's name implies, the beach is less than a quarter mile away, crossing two fairly busy roads, but easier than trying to find public parking at the beach.

Staff was helpful, assisting my wife with a waffle-maker at the continental breakfast without her having to ask. A front desk clerk spent several minutes trying to locate a seafood buffet when I asked. Apparently, there weren't any but the hotel carries an extensive list of restaurant options with menus, which was a plus for a first-time visitor like myself.

On the negative side, the decor is worn and tired as was stated here before. That included the TV, whose reception was fair at best. There's also apparently a time-share sales representative on-site so be ready for that pitch. Still, I was not disappointed overall.

Here is the following email I sent to the Hotel Manager after the stay my mother and I had in September 2007:

"Hi, Jerry!
I just wanted to take a minute to tell you what a wonderful time my mother and I had at Beach Walk Hotel, September 6-10th this year. This was my 2nd stay and her first and we loved it! The breakfast is always great, the walk to the beach was perfect and scenic, the room was always clean, the view overlooking your gardens was very pretty (especially going out to the gazebo to see the turtles and look for that Gator!), the pool was clean and refreshing in the afternoons after being at the beach all day, etc, etc, etc….! Thank you for taking care of our reservation confirmation before arriving and for running a great property! We hope to make it an annual September trip! See you next year and keep up the good work!"

This is really the only place on Hilton Head you can stay that is not over crowded, over priced or too far from the beach to walk. If you walk the side street from the timeshare property behind Beach Walk down to the beach instead of the busy hwy, the walk is shaded and very scenic AND passes all the shops at Coligny and restaurants that serve good fresh seafood! So you can grab some sun block on the way down and late lunch on the way back to the room! The pool was perfect and in September, there was barely anyone around so we had most of the pool to ourselves in the mid to late afternoon. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who has the money to vacation on Hilton Head but doesn't feel like they need to pay over $200 a night or be right on top of the beach or the crowds to have a nice time. I am 37, professional, married with no children and took my mother on vacation for the first time ever - so this trip was important to me. Just to note, I am a VERY picky traveler and always feel like I should be accommodated. Beach Walk did that and more without even trying. Thanks again, Jerry!

We stayed at the Beachwalk Motel for a long weekend in October 2007. It was okay. It looks like they have put new carpet, curtains, shower curtain rod, chair coverings, etc. in an older motel. The beds were decent, but not super comfortable. It's almost like they put too much furniture in the room so it seems kind of small. The people at the motel were nice enough. It was very busy while we stayed there.

They do have a golf cart shuttle that will take you just about anywhere around the area. The beach is only about a 10 minute walk, but you do have to cut through a shopping center. The shopping center is a little confusing because it winds around all over the place.

The other reviewers are right that there is not a whole lot of street lights on the island and all of the shopping areas are hidden in the trees. It's a little claustrophobic to drive around, but some people like the idea that HHI is not commercial at all.
