“This is an Oceanfront Marriot? Gimme a Break!”

Marriott's Monarch at Sea Pines

This should not be called a resort. All other resorts we have stayed at had many more activities. They call it an Oceanfront resort and we could not see the ocean from our unit. The staff at the front did not offer advice when when confronted with problems. Bicycles that were left to rent were all broken but easily fixable, however the staff was too lazy to fix them or even put air in the tires. The last day, we found that another company would deliver bikes there, which the staff did not inform us of. Fish ponds were half empty and dirty. Only one restaurant with mediocre food and limited hours. You can't even get a cup of coffee here. We traded a week in Aruba for this dump- big mistake! The place should not carry the Marriot name.

“The Perfect Spring Break”

Marriott's Monarch at Sea Pines

We traded our Marriott time share in Aruba for a week in the 48 statesduring spring break, March 10-17. Our unit was freshly remodeled and was in perfect working order for us. Given that spring break can be very noisy wherever you stay, we were relieved that noise was never a problem. Hiton Head is a great place to stay and we definitely enjoyed the helpful desk staff and had a relaxing week.

The only good thing I can say is that the Monarch is right on the beach and is in a beautiful location. Other than that, we were extremely disappointed with the condition of our unit. The furniture, appliances, etc were outdated and in desperate need of renovation. Unless this resort is completely renovated, I would not recommend it.

“Beautiful Hilton Head”

Marriott's Monarch at Sea Pines

10 Apr 2007

We traded our time share week for this resort. We thought it was great. Hilton Head Island is a an amazing place. There is so much to do: bike riding, nature walks, great beaches, kayaking, shopping, good pools and short drives for day trips to Savannah and Charleston. We liked the Monarch. The staff was friendly, they had a good workout room, our room was clean, our beds were very comfortable and the resort offered activities on site. We would stay again.

We stayed at the Monarch at the end of August this year, having stayed there at about the same time the year before. It is just in the most perfect location, literally right on what must be one of the best beaches anywhere. I would agree that the property is not as pristine in terms of decoration as some newer places might be, but the location more than compensates.
We were there when Tropical Strom Ernesto was threatening to hit the Carolinas and the hotel kept us up to date with the progress of the storm and whether we would need to evacuate. In the event it just rained a lot, but I was reassured by the professional approach that was taken.
We have found the Monarch, in both years to be a wonderful and relaxing place to stay. I only wish I could go back every year. Seriously..treat yourself to that beach...you won't be disappointed.
