I have never written a review before; however this recent trip has compelled me too. I booked this hotel based on other postive reviews on this site and others. This is our experience. Upon check in, the staff seemed pleasant and the outside looked ok. The inside of the room was dated, but we knew that going in. We went into our room and checked the sheets carefully (I'm a neat freak) and noticed very small dead bugs. I went to the desk and they told me that it may be because they bombed the room for fleas since it was a "pet room". We took our pet wth us and certain rooms are designated pet rooms. We were offered another room. I looked at the sheets in the new room and there were numerous stains. I went back to the desk and was offered another set of sheets and told that I could even pick them out in the laundry room, which in my opinion was dirty. They immediately brought me new sheets to put on the bed.....and to my surprse there were "live" jumping bugs on these sheets. I could not stay overnight at this hotel. This is the first time that I had to leave a hotel early. I got a refund from my booking agency...and stayed at a Clarion in Savanannah at Maingate off of I-95 since we were on our way to Disney World. This room was very clean without bugs.

we stayed this past weekend at the park lane hotel and suites. the property is vastly over-represented online, and we were expecting much nicer accomodations. the rooms were spacious and clean, but in need of an update -- which the hotel is apparently undergoing. i really did feel dirty the whole time i was there, and with the other clientele, did not feel safe sitting by the pool by myself on saturday. i also did not care for a member of the hotel staff ringing my room at 10 on saturday morning, inviting me on a tour of the island's available real estate - the trip for which either i was to pay him $90, or he was going to pay me. (i had quit listening.)

personally, i'd avoid hilton head altogether, as it's become a more glorified myrtle beach. there are much(!) nicer beaches in south carolina, and a hotel like park lane suites would not make it on a more upscale island.

We had a good time but we had no way to get around without a car. Thank God there was the shuttle driver, Danny. He took us to the beach and talked to us the whole way and suggested things to do and places to eat and shop. Told us where to wait for him and the times. He made us very comfortable and we could ask him anything. Every day that he saw us he remembered us and was very friendly. He was the best.

Josh the desk clerk was very kind and helpful too. My phone wouldn't work so he even offered to call and order a pizza for us.

Our family recently stayed for three nights at the Park Place hotel and were very pleased with this property. As other reviews have noted, they are in the process of updating the property - the exterior and common areas have been/are being completed and look fabulous. The rooms themselves have somewhat dated trim and furnishings, but everything was clean and in good operating condition. We booked a king suite (just missed the great deal on the two queen suite), but had ample room for a double-size inflatable mattress next to the king bed. Other highlights of this property are:
- free wireless internet (nice, strong, reliable signal)
- HEATED pool and jacuzzi
- HOT and FREE breakfast buffet each morning (e.g., biscuits/gravy, sausage, scrambled eggs, waffles, muffins, bagels, cereal, etc.) - you'd spend $20/day+ to get the same thing at a restaurant for a family of 4!
- Friendly staff
- Central location (we found that being closer to lots of things was better than being ON the beach - especially for the price).

We had heard that a model of the soon-to-be-renovated rooms was completed and the staff were happy to accomodate our request to see it. I HIGHLY recommend other visitors do the same - they look GORGEOUS! We can't wait to come back when they're all done.
