We booked this hotel at the last minute for my son's spring break. We definitely enjoyed the large balcony with direct ocean access, but that was the best of it. It is by no means a full service hotel. You had to rent beach towels and chairs ($4) and carry the very bulky wooden chairs over the dunes and across the beach. If you wanted to pay $7 more you could rent the ones right on the beach. My son rented a bicycle and the chain broke at the end of the beach and he had to walk it back. We used the Concierge to recommend restaurants and their recommendations were not very good. Almost every day my key card became desensitized and i had to bring it back to the main desk. They said it was from being too close to a cell phone or other credit cards, but after the first time I kept it in a separate pocket from those items, so i am not sure why it kept happening. They also charged us $6 to park in the parking lot, whether we used valet or not! If I had paid the $79 other reviewers paid, I wouldn't have minded the constant nickle and diming, but for the over $300 a night we paid it was annoying.

This hotel is maybe a three-star hotel on a good day. Unfortunately, we weren't there on a good day. The Hilton was 100% occupied when we were there and the support staff was obviously overwhelmed.

The property is old and it shows. However, "arrogantly shabby," especially with a beach view, can sometimes be off-set with exceptional (hello, four-star!) service. The service was laughable -- from no answer or voice mail for most extentions we called, to incorrect and late room service orders.

Can we talk about the food? All I can say is, we went down the road to the (rated by TripAdvisor three-star?) Marriott after a couple samplings of the Hilton's dismal fare. Add the surly wait staff and loud construction near the restaurant, and it's a disaster. If we go back to Hilton Head, we'll be staying at the Marriott Oceanfront Resort & Spa, regardless of TripAdvisor's star rating.

We booked 2 nights for our 30th anniversary ($79/Hotwire). Everything was lovely-the room with its kingbed and 9 pillows, thick towels in the bathroom, plenty of coffee supplies. The landscaping was lushfully green, the azaleas and dogwoods were blooming. The view to the ocean, the sunrise and the quiet beach were almost spiritual and heartwarming. The staff were very friendly. They sent balloonsand a small gift for our anniversary. What made it extra special is that, by coincidence, there was a framed picture of a dragonfly in the room(401). I am crazy about dragonflies. Our phones worked all the time. Overall it was heavenly and more than we expected

I had a great time at the Hilton Oceanfront Resort. I took a weekend getaway for myself just to relax and get away from the everyday hussel and bussel of life.

The hotel was booked for the weekend because of spring break, but you would never have known it. It was much quieter that I expected. I requested a king size bed with an ocean view, but was told that since I booked through a third party, I would have an island facing room. I didn't mind becuase I got such a great value through this third party. Thank you!!! Much to my surprise, my 5th floor, king size room had a GREAT view of the ocean!!! I didn't pay full price so I have nothing to complain about. This was one of the largest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. The staff at check in was extreamly nice and fast. When I arrived, it was raining and had rained my entire trip down. Thank you to the man who checked me in quickly and politely on Saturday 4/5/08. I am sorry I didn't get your name, but thank you! You are the best!!!!

The room was clean, furniture was nice, bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a nice size. The AC worked great in my room-- sorry for everyone who said theirs did not. There was also a kitchenett with a microwave, fridge, coffee maker and cabinent space. The resort is located on the beach, so it was just a short walk down the boardwalk to get there. The private balcony with a view of the ocean was the icing on the cake! I could not have asked for a better place to stay. The Hilton is exactly what I was looking for!

The wireless internet could have been a little better, but I just plugged up when I needed to get online. No biggie, thank you for not charging to get online :)
