When we first checked in Hotel they sent us to a room that was already taken. The customer service was very poor. The room rug were dirty. The bathroom was filthy and needed work, furniture was a banged up. The only thing that was pleasant was the bed. This place really need to be closed down. Would'nt recommend anyone to this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for my family reunion. The hotel staff were not pleasant and accomodating. We had several rooms booked but many were not ready by 4:30 pm. Many family members changed to other hotels. The rooms have a musty, moldy smell and are not very clean. The shower has mildew and it takes about 30 minutes for the water to drain out. The AC did not work properly in my first room and I was told that the maintenance guy was gone for the day. After about 2 hours, he came back and could not repair the problem. I was moved to the room next door but the front desk did not have me assigned to that room at check out. There was a used condom outside of my room and I never saw anyone from housekeeping. There were roaches in the banquet room. The hotel has a sign up that says "Welcome to Howard Johnson". This hotel is not up to Howard Johnson standards. I would not recommend it. I jumped in my shower with antibacterial soap when I got home.

“Not Worth the Headache”

I was supposed to stay at the hotel for my family reunion weekend. Some of the family members arrived at the hotel early but they decided that the hotel was not suitable for them to stay and left shortly after they checked in. When I arrived at the hotel the following day I was informed that all of the reservations for numerous family had been cancelled. I asked the manager who had cancelled the reservations since I was the primary contact for the function. I was never provided an answer. Despite the concerns of the other family members, I thought I would patronize the facility. I called the hotel on Friday and asked if I would still be able to stay there at the $69 rate that was stated in my contract. The clerk indicated yes. When my family and I arrived at the hotel after 6:00pm we asked if there was a reservation for us and the clerk stated, "No". So we asked if we could get a room and the clerk respond that we could at a rate of $79. (I thought $69 was stretching it for the overall condition of the hotel but $79 was out of the question--considering that the hotel had adequately supplied the room of one of my family members with towel and the grass around the pool looked like a mini jungle.) I told the clerk that I was told that the $69 rate would be honored but she said, "No". So my family and I set out on a Friday evening to locate lodging. A few days later when I was looking at my credit card activities I noticed that the hotel had charge my credit card. I contacted the hotel and asked how could they charge my credit card when they were the ones that allowed all of the rooms to be cancelled (besides, how would you be able to cancel a reservation that does not exists). He said that the charges were assessed because the room was not cancelled. I told him that if I had reservations why wasn't my room available when my family and I went to the hotel at 7:00pm and did not have reservations. He said that they would not hold the room past 6:00pm. I informed the hotel manager that I stay at hotels quite a bit and a room guarantee means that the room would be held for you beyond the normal hold period. Despite the fact that managment at the hotel cancelled my reservations, the hotel has proceeded to fraudulently charge over $600 to my credit card. I have not received a reasonable explanation why those charges were made. Stay at the hotel at your own risk but you could be trying to chase down your credit card information like I'm having to do. This experience was definitely not worth the headache.

“Trouble at the Inn”

Booked in person at front desk.

I would like to inform you of my recent experience staying for my first time at an America's Best Inn. The dates of my stay are from November 12-16, 2006 (I am still here). I am at the Charleston Airport Inn, 6099 Fain Blvd., North Charleston, SC 29406. The total charges were $224.76, a fair price in this area for the sort of room I am renting.

First, the best part of my stay was the staff. All were extremely cheerful, and helpful to me during my stay. They are to be commended. In particular the Manager who was working in the afternoon of the 12th, and apparently had to pull a double-shift as she was there all night, but kept on smiling, and working in a professional manner.

In addition, the grounds and building exterior are kept immaculate; the buildings present an asthetically pleasing appearance. The parking area is well-lit, and reasonably secure.

And then, the not-so-good- part.

I was told the room, (according to the receipt #119, actually assigned to room #104) was within the Wifi range of the Inn's computer network. Possibly it is supposed to be, but in fact, there was no signal. Even within the lobby (less than fifty feet from my room) the signal is barely perceptable. Best Western's WiFi was coming in strong at America's Inn. After working with the night manager on the problem (I was an Aviation Electronics Technician in the Navy), it was determined to be a hardware fault, possibly corrosion in the cabling. The management asked if I wished a refund, and help to find a new motel to stay.

I declined the gracious offer: the management can hardly be blamed for an equipment fault. It turns out that was the least of my worries, and I should have bailed when the offer was made.

The sink plumbing was stopped up, and the shower diverter lever didn't work correctly, sending most of the water through the bath spout anyway. I inquired at the desk, and within the hour maintenance personnel had repaired both troubles. These kinds of things happen anywhere; I thank the maintenance personnel for their timely response in repairing the trouble.

But there were two things I did not expect -

Under the bed, under the headboard, I discovered a bunch of false fingernails, dirty cutlery, and a huge pile of used facial tissue, used for what I will not speculate. I have been sleeping in a chair rather than sleep on that bed after that. This place is right outside the Air Force Base, you know.

And infesting the room: two different species of Cockroaches. The first I discovered floating in my coffee cup. They are everywhere, even within the microwave, refrigerator, and television set. My Mother's rule of thumb applies here: If you see one, there are about a thousand others in hiding. Using that rule, there are hundreds of thousands in this room alone.

Obviously, changing rooms would not help, if they are within this room, they infest the whole building. Therefore I will not eat at the Breakfast Nook nor take leisure in the Lounge. I just hope they haven't made a home of the innards of my computer.

"America's Best" is quite a goal to live up to - a worthy challenge for any corporation in any enterprise. I think America's Best has missed the mark a bit here, though. I am a disabled Veteran, and rather shy - I am too embarrassed to make complaint about the last two items directly. I am just gritting my teeth and bearing it until my flight leaves on Thursday. And the TV remote makes a good 'roach swatter, since I do not watch TV. But, I am afraid this colours my decision as to where I stay the next time I am travelling.

“the worse stay ever”

I had to move from this room twice. The first room had water damage over the shower and was in much disrepair. I notified the front desk clerk and he stated that I had to wait until morning to be contacted by management. Well noone ever contacted me therefore i took the intiative to go to them and explain the situation. The manager on duty gave many excuses, was argumentative, and unaccomating. Needless to say all the other hotels were booked and I could not make other arrangements at such short notice. In the second room there was mildew and pubic hair on the tub. It was so disgusting! I asked for a non-smoking room because of allergies and other health problems.Well you guessed it! THey offered me a smoking room.
