My wife and I stayed at the Pink Dolphin for two nights in early April 2007. We stayed a in a large room on the first floor with a private bath and Jacuzzi tub. The location was on a quiet street just two blocks away from the main street in Summerville and walking distance to several good restaurants. The room was excellent and was less than $100 a night for two with breakfast. The owners, Diane and Ken, were helpful with local restaurant suggestions and other information. Breakfasts were huge, home-cooked, and delicious and included french toast, yogurt with granola, eggs, sausage, bacon, and one of my favorites, sausage gravy with home-made biscuits.
Although Summerville is just outside of Charleston, we were in the area to visit relatives and unfortunately had no time to spend in downtown Charleston. We did find time for an afternoon visit to Magnolia Plantations, and we think Summerville would be a good base from which to visit Charleston if you looking for a place that is not downtown and is a good value.
