My grandson (5-years) and I were going to Edisto Beach on 5/1 and even though we're only 2 1/2 hours away you tend to be tired after all the sun, playing, etc. That, combined with the fact that he loves to stay in motels, made me plan a stop in Walterboro for the night before returning home. We've stayed in several motels in Walterboro, but had not stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites. I checked the web site and found that a standard room was about 70.00 per night. I called the hotel direct and got a rate of 60.00 for the night. Decided to give it a try.
We spent the whole day at the beach and finally packed it in and drove to Walterboro for what I hoped would be a restful night (as restful as it can be with a 5-year old!). I was truly pleased with the motel. The public areas are very clean and the staff manning the desk are extremely friendly (as are the housekeeping staff).
The standard rooms are larger than most, have a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The room decor was nice, and the room/bathroom was very clean. This is an interior corridor motel, which I don't normally like because you can usually hear noise in the hallway. I had no problems with this motel though. Most of the rooms were occupied by older travelers and I guess that helped. They don't tend to run, scream or bang doors, like kids/teenagers do. The exterior doors require a room key for access.
The grounds are well kept and the pool area is nice. The only problem that I had with this motel is that the pool wasn't open for the season. The temps in the SC Low Country are warm enough for the pool to open by the 1st of May. This would be a nice perk for people (like me) that are traveling with kids. I'm sure there are many senior visitors that wouldn't mind a few laps in the pool also. There's a nice, large grassy area around the pool that kids can run and play in if they need to burn off a little energy.
The continental breakfast was good, in my opinion. Cereal, biscuits and gravy, pastries, boiled eggs, toast (jams, jellies, cream cheese, etc.), bagels, waffles, yogurt, fruit, milk, juice, tea, and some very good coffee. The Glass House Restaurant is right next door (good hot wings and chicken tenders), as is a steak house. Ruby Tuesdays and Waffle House is across the street and the Cracker Barrel is right across the overpass.
