The hotel seems to be the only place around and in a most beautiful, nay..... stunning setting with so many options for walking , leisure and just taking it easy.Maybe also by being the only place around things are allowed to slide somewhat in terms of decoration, decor, furnishings and care/maintainance of the site ,both inside and out.
On entering reception there is noone at the desk and the seating is mismatched and seemingly randomly put together colour clashing armchairs with vivid handmarks, stains, rips and signs that the season is over!
The bar area/restaurant is unappealing but has marvellous views..a sort of half hearted sky blue paint job and seating like from a campsite canteen or an oige dining area on utility like seating. There is a flat screen tv high up on a wall but far too small for the purpose.Just in front is the TV room a busy area frequented by younger visitors that would benefit from a clean and a bit of glass spray/cleaner.Not a good place to locate it as a constant stream of motion to and fro and against the backs of seated guests.
Outside the views are fabulous but very obvious signs of lack of maintainance and end of season blues as it is the last weekend before school begins.
Tasted the bar food on arrival yet most stuff wasnt there apart from the quick cook favourites.Waiting staff tired and jaded and order to service time very slow. Saw what was on offer and just had tea,, my partner had fish cakes that were awful.People who knew the place said food was variable to good at times but ate at the Herons Cove in Goleen.
Probably a great ,"Holiday camp like",and very safe and wonderfully exciting place for a family with young kids as so many natural activities for them to do in such an idyllic setting...but as a restful, inspiring ,romantic middle aged retreat ..forget it. Was ok for the scenery but wont be back when there are so many lovely properties around with ambience, peace, tranquility, style ,excellent all round facilities and excellent cuisine.
The place is in need of a major overhaul and will probably get it this Autumn/Winter or people will walk with their feet.Sorry folks...just not up to scratch
