My wife and I actually stayed at Hollowbrook Cottage - a self-catering cottage adjacent to the Old Rectory Hotel and maintained by the same people. We went to the hotel itself, enjoyed the gardens, ate meals in the restaurant and were looked after by the proprietors - so I feel that my comment about the hotel will be appropriate here.
Our stay was truly wonderful. The hotel is exactly what the website promises - elegant yet relaxed, friendly yet unobtrusive. The gardens are charming and well-maintained, the hotel itself is spotless. The meals were wonderful - a 5 course dinner, with the menu changing every day (having come to Exmoor to do some cycling and try loosing some weight, I found myself struggling :-)
Another important point - the WiFi was working flawlessly throughout my stay, as promised.
What I also enjoyed greatly was the hospitality of the proprietors, Chris and Stewart. They were there when I needed help or advice, and made it a true "home away from home" for me. I booked a week's stay initially, but loved the place so much I ended up staying for another week (I was very fortunate with availability).
On the whole, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place, and will definitely try to come back myself as soon as I can.
