As frequent visitors to this hotel over a twenty year period we were so very disappointed when it closed a few years back. We were therefore delighted to learn that it had re-opened under the ownership of Anne and Eddie Eyles. On arrival we received the friendliest of welcomes and soon found that our favourite room was still as comfortable as ever. In fact litle had changed Anne and Eddie have retained everything that was so good in the "old" hotel. The food is of an excellent standard, superbly served by efficient and friendly staff. The comfort of the bar and lounge, and the convivial atmospere therein remain at the highest level.

Well done Anne and Eddie - you have a winner here.

This is a small privalely owned hotel run by the owners who are also the chefs. Food is excellent with a lot of the ingredients produced and farmed in Devon. If you take the half board option , a very english afternoon tea is included, which is very indulgent. Rooms are comfortable and individually furnished . The hotel ajoins the national trust owned Heddons valley which runs down to the sea. Its location makes it a wonderfull place for walkers with the north devon coastal path being about a ten minute walk away. Exmoor is a 15 minute drive and Lynton and Lynnouth 20minutes away. The hotel is quite isolated which makes it very peacefull, a wonderfull place to relax and unwind. Be warned , no mobile phone signal. Bliss.

A great central location for trips around North Devon with an excellent restaurant.

Excellent hospitality from the owners.

The restaurant alone is worh a visit.

Comfortable large individual rooms.

A wonderful spot for country lovers due to its proximity to Hunters Inn, the start of many pathways along and around the North Devon Coast.

First class breakfast, great afternoon tea's.

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful four day stay at the Heddon's Gate Hotel. This hidden gem of an hotel is nestled in the beautiful wooded Heddon Valley. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly owners Anne and Eddie Eyles who showed us to our room. All the rooms have names and we were in the 'Boys' room which was a large bay-windowed room overlooking the valley. The room had a beautiful ensuite bathroom with nice toiletries and lovely white 'fluffy' towels.
My husband enjoys a bath rather than a shower and he luxuriated in bath water which was the hottest he has ever experienced. (There was also a very nice separate shower which my wife prefers - best of both worlds). There was also a tray with tea-making facilities available and bed turn-down service every evening. We arrived at the hotel just in time for complimentary afternoon tea (served every day from 4p.m.)
which included dainty filled sandwiches, scones and cake - delicious!! Dinner consisted of five courses (including cheese and biscuits) and freshly prepared. This was followed by coffee and chocolate truffles and mints. Full English breakfast every morning set us up for our daily trips out in this beautiful part of North Devon. The hotel is close-by some of the best coastal and country walks and only a fifteen minute drive from the towns of Lynton and Lynmouth which are very picturesque and certainly worth a visit. The icing on the cake was the good weather that we experienced, and we often took our afternoon tea on the hotel terrace where we soaked in the total peace and tranquillity of this beautiful location. My husband and I highly recommend this first class hotel and will return at the earliest opportunity.
Thank you Anne and Eddie (not forgetting daughter Corinne) for making our stay so memorable.
