We recently had a short break in the East Neuk of Fife and booked accommodation at Crichton House in Anstruther. After parking the car in the secure car park at the rear of the building we were warmly welcomed by Anne, the owner of the establishment. She exuded friendship and as she showed us to our room we could not fail to observe the cleanliness of the building. Our bedroom was pristine in every way, the decor, furniture and fittings. Unlike many other B and B's Crichton House was furnished to the very highest standards. The bed was extremely comfortable, the furniture was modern and included a flat screen T.V. and tea and coffee making facilities. Fruit, biscuits and bottled water were there for our use. The high standards continued in the bathroom. It was predominantly sparkling white and the glass shower screen, mirror and chrome taps did not show even one single smudge. The shower was ultra modern and easy to control. Ample supplies of soap and shower gel were supplied. Drinking glasses were proper glass, not plastic, as is the case in most establishments. Anne's attention to detail was unbelievable with everything being carefully arranged, even the cups were sitting with the handles pointing in the same direction and in the wardrobe the coat hangers were all new and identical. Many B and B's seem to source their hangers from charity shops but this is not the case at Crichton House. Breakfast would put many five star hotels to shame. The range of cereals available could satisfy the most demanding of guests. Yogurt and fruit were there and each guest was given freshly squashed orange juice. This was all before being served a real Scottish breakfast of sausage, egg, bacon, potato scone, black pudding and tomato. The toast rack was continually topped up with fresh hot toast. This set us up for a hard day out. Although Anne was always around and tending to our needs her presence was not overbearing thereby giving us a very pleasant stay.
