Port St Mary was a random choice as a base for an IOM visit, but I am so glad I made it. The stay at Aaron House was like staying with friends (It should be listed in Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay) who let you come and go. And feed you extremely well. The breakfast and the service was impeccable. Friendly, welcoming, interesting, and not stuffy, not suffocating, not nosey. Just really great.
The bed was SO comfortable. There was loads of hot hot water every night. Toilets flushed (oh you know what I mean....english plumbing can be rubbish, but it isnt here). Piles of lovely towels. Bubble bath, nice soap, hair dryers...everything, and done so well.
The decor is gorgeous. Wallpaper especially printed to be in keeping with the Victorian era. Enough decoration but not fru- fru or chintzy, and definitely NO DUST. I spent alot of time admiring the ceilings, light fittings, fireplaces.
The view of the bay is beautiful, and the silence is really magical. NO car noise. None at all.
oh yes- the owners' son is an award winning chocolatier!!! Cocoa Red- I ate two bars of it, gazing out the window at the sea; a most restful holiday!
