“Lloyd does Quasimodo and rings all the right bells”

The Cluny Bank Hotel

First the only thing wrong about Cluny Bank is the size of the shower which is best accessed with grease and a shoehorn, but everything else is top notch.

Hosts at this listed Victorian mansion are Lloyd and Julie Kenny from Preston who could not be more friendly and helpful- nothing is too much trouble for them although Lloyd was crippled with a bad back during my visit which lead him to present dessert, at the end of a very excellent dinner, doubled up on his knees.

There is a snug and comfortable bar where you can chat to other guests, mainly golfers given the number of wonderful courses within an hour's drive, and spacious bedrooms ( apart from the shower) with very comfortable beds.

It is not aimed at the younger end of the market and it is not cheap but for older couples or those on a golfing pilgrimage it provides a terrific base to explore the north of Scotland. I would certainly recommend it.

We stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very palatial and comfortable, the food was good and the oweners were friendly and helpful. The only thing I might say is that it was pretty expensive - not really 'on' unless for a 'special' stay. There is nowhere else around that you'd want to stay, though. Forres is quiet and much nicer than any nearby towns. We enjoyed walking in the Cluny Woods just behind the hotel (turn left out of gate then left again then left fork). Forres and especially Findhorn have a sort of microclimate so it is often nice weather here though not elsewhere.

“A real treat”

We had a truly fantastic stay at Cluny Bank Hotel in Forres, an easy 25 mins drive from Inverness Airport.
The hotel is a grand building, & is tastefully furnished throughout.
We were in a superior room, & it was just that. The furniture & decor gave it an exclusive feel. We were able to have a look at a standard room..they are all beautifully decorated.
There was no need to go to the Tourist Information office as there was plenty of literature both in the room & in the hotel foyer & the owners were able to suggest plenty of things to see & do.
We had some thoroughly good breakfast with a variety of fruits, cereals, breads, & of course we had to sample the wonderful cooked courses.
Our evening meals, in the hotel restaurant were divine.....there were plenty of choices, & the chef showed such imagination with the way he put things together, not only for the starter & main courses, but his sweets were really difficult to choose from !
Both before our meal, & after, we had a lovely time in the bar, chatting to the owners, who were interested to know about our day.they want their guests to have a lovely stay with them...& we did.

We stayed here for one night in October last year, taking advantage of the romantic break that the hotel offers. Basically, the break entitles you to stay 24 hours in the hotel, they check the clock when you arrive and you check out 24 hours later.
The hotel is owned by a dutch couple and they just cant do enough for you! The hotel itself is small and situated in a quiet street in Forres not far from the golf course. On arrival we were offered tea and coffee with shortbread in our room, this was brought up to us on a tray and we were told to phone down any time we needed more. Also in our room we had a mini decanter filled with Scottish whisky with a personalised note from the owners telling us to help ourselves to the whisky which was complimentary! Our room was lovely, a huge bed which was very comfortable, a suite area and a huge tv with dvd player and a dvd menu. Again we could phone for any dvd we wanted to watch. Our bathroom was very big, had a very powerful shower and corner bath with complimetary toiletries. Our breakfast in the morning was first class, (there was no set time for breakfast, just whenever we felt like it!) and, even when we had guests in our room, they were given coffee and tea at no extra cost.
This hotel is a real find, and we would both definetely stay here again, We only stayed for one night but felt so refreshed and relaxed afterwards we felt like we had stayed for much longer.
