Just spent fabulous night at Crieff Hydro - wonderful bright, superbly decorated room, wonderful views, great staff, leisure facilities abound but maybe pool area could do with a bit of modernisation. Breakfast was included and was particularly tasty - buffet style with all you can each - even haggis! Will definately give this hotel a return visit.

The festive weather without a doubt made this hotel eve more spectacular than it already is. Attended winter Xmas conference. Enjoyed every minute of it. Food very good reasonable beer prices all in all an excellent hotel although location wise it takes some getting to although for some people that may add to the attraction!!!

“Loved the hotel not the Food”

Stayed there over the holiday weekend of 5 and 6 April with 2 young children 1 and 4. Booked standard interconnecting rooms with cot. Accommodation was excellent. Facilities is excellent. My eldest loved the Big Country kids club. Couldn't wait to get there. The only problem we had with the stay was the food at the Brasserie. We had lunch there both nights and both nights the food was unacceptable. The 2nd night was the worst. We had booked a babysitter for our youngest and put the eldest in the Big Country and thought was could have a lovely peaceful dinner. Table was booked for 7.30pm. Got there 5 mins early, got table and order our food. Starter came fairly quickly and was excellent. However, we had to wait over 30 mins for our main course to arrive and this was telling the waiter that we had to go back for the babysitter at 9pm. We got our meal at 8.25pm. My husband order vension sausge. The first was really tasty and hot whereas the second was not cooked properly in the middle. I ordered the red snapper. This came fried to a crisp and burnt around the edges so there was a burnt taste throughout! The dinner time for the kids was also a disaster. It was a busy weekend and if you were later in getting to the restaurant you had to wait 20/30 mins for them to bring out more food. It was a buffet consisting of pizza, fish cakes, beans, fries etc. Not exactly gourmet stuff.

The restaurants don't seem to be able to handle being fully booked. Its not as if they don't know how many tables are booked as you are asked to pre-book your table.
Having spoken to other people who where there it was really a hit or a miss whether you got a good meal or not in any of the restaurant at the Hydro. As I said everything was excellent apart from this. I would go ahead but I think I would go self catering and do my own cooking next time.

“Lovely resort, but nature is oh so noisy!”

Crieff Hydro Hotel and Resort

25 Feb 2008

Just returned from a 2 night stay in one of the hotel chalets. The chalet is like a small log cabin and is situated on a hill. Due to steep hill incline it is certainly not suitable for anyone who has difficulty walking. (indeed I consider myself quite fit, but the climb from the hotel to the chalet made me breathless everytime!). The living space in the chalet is small and adequate, although I was impressed by the kitchen. Word of warning if you decide to stay in the chalet and you are a light sleeper. The chalet is surrounded by tall trees and at this time of year the weather can be brutal and the wind was noisy both day and night. Also the birds start singing around 4am! Security in the chalets is shocking. There is no safe for valuables and the locks on doors at the front and back of the accommodation were weak. We had to carry about our valuables because we did not trust the locks.

Self catering residents will have to take a basic stock of food items with them as there is no shop onsite. We ate at the Golf Club House and the Winter Gardens and on both occasions we found the food good and priced reasonable.

The children were disappointed in the Big Country Kids Club. The activities stated on the rota did not take place and the staff just seemed to throw colouring in items at the children to keep them busy.

The outdoor activities were pricey. We tried the golf driving range and pitch and putt, both of which were reasonably priced. Children also tried quad biking, little overpriced. The staff at the outdoor centre were young, friendly and helpful.

The pool was slightly disappointing. Its small and the sauna and steam room were luke warm! Booked the Victorian spa, which is an additional charge. Nice to look at but again its quite small.

I would not recommend booking this hotel if you are looking for a luxury spa break, nor would I recommend it as an activity break for young families, unless you have won the lottery! It is set in a beautiful part of Scotland and the scenery (weather permitting) is spectactular, so if long walks in the countryside and nice food are what you' after, Crieff Hydro won't disappoint.

“Fantastic Family Resort”

Crieff Hydro Hotel and Resort

Just back from a 2 night break at Crieff Hydro and was highly impressed. We have been before years ago but this time we saw a huge improvement in the facilities and standard of the bedrooms. We stayed in a bunk bed room as the kids really wanted to try the bunk beds. Excellent rooms, kingsize bed, bunk bed room off ours where the kids had their own TV and DVD.

The kids went to the kids club both nights and had a ball - remember to book this and the restaurants before you go as they were full. We chose the Meikle restaurant both nights and the food was good. Drinks we found surprisingly very cheap, spirit and mixer for £2.30! As it was half term, both nights had a family ceildh on which the kids just loved. We wanted to do horseriding and quad biking but we hadn't booked so they were booked up and didn't get to do it this time - our motto, book in advance especially in kids half term holidays. The place was full of families and I really can not recommend it highly enough.

We went to the Famous Grouse Experience also, which is only a couple of miles away and it was really good for the kids - we had a one to one guide and she made it such fun for all of us - we had the Experience Tour that included the interactive show at the end - the kids had a ball and there was a cat and small play park so all in all it got a big thumbs up aswell and Crieff Hydro overall - fantastic.
