My previous visits to this hotel have ended with me writing a wonderful review on tripadvisor about all aspects of this hotel. I do still think it is a beautiful hotel, lovely rooms, friendly staff and the best kids club that I have come accross. Lots of entertainment for the children. A great family resort. However my past 2 visits have left me very disappointed at the quality of the food and the service in the barasserie. Both lunch and dinner could only be classed as dreadful. Lunch consisted of cold food, hard baked potatoes and wrong orders being served. Dinner was disgusting. Started off with wrong drinks order that took 3 waiters and 25 minutes to get right. Only half our parties starters came and were finished before more starters arrived. We are still waiting on the last persons starter, she eventually gave up. Main course came 1 hour later, the salmon was dried/burned and looked dreadful. The lamb was hard and tasteless. Once again 2 members of our groups main course did not arrive till everyone else was finished. Another main course should have had a side salad that did not arrive till she was finished despite asking several waiters for this. The manager seemed to find our complaints amusing and we had to eventually ask for his manager who I have to admit was very nice and friendly and did take our complaint seriously. We were compensated by removal of wine from our bill and given a bottle of fizz to compensate. However all in all our night was ruined. We left the restaurant 3 and a half hours after entering it very unhappy and hungry. I have to admit breakfast the next morning was wonderful and we had no complaints. However our last experience at Crieff Hydro will be our last visit. There are too many hotels to choose from to accept bad food like this. Bad show Crieff Hydro

“Might not be very good, but at least it was expensive.!!”

Booked 2 nights DB&B in "Executive Suite" - more like staff chalets.! Should have taken my tools to help make up the pull out bed (some wood and a mattress). Dirty room service tray's left outside our "Executive Suite" from when we arrived until the day we left - the local wildlife had fun with those in the early hours of Sunday morning.! Meal in the Brasserie Saturday, sent back cold... meal on the Sunday perfect. Millions of kids.. don't get me wrong, I like kids - but I couldn't eat a whole one.! I found the staff, except one at the reception, to be most helpful...

In summary - Crieff Hydro.. if you're trying to get rid of your kids for hours on end... Great.. If your looking for peace and quiet, forget it - you'll spend your time listening to other peoples kids screaming the place down.

Just spent fabulous night at Crieff Hydro - wonderful bright, superbly decorated room, wonderful views, great staff, leisure facilities abound but maybe pool area could do with a bit of modernisation. Breakfast was included and was particularly tasty - buffet style with all you can each - even haggis! Will definately give this hotel a return visit.

The festive weather without a doubt made this hotel eve more spectacular than it already is. Attended winter Xmas conference. Enjoyed every minute of it. Food very good reasonable beer prices all in all an excellent hotel although location wise it takes some getting to although for some people that may add to the attraction!!!

Stayed there over the holiday weekend of 5 and 6 April with 2 young children 1 and 4. Booked standard interconnecting rooms with cot. Accommodation was excellent. Facilities is excellent. My eldest loved the Big Country kids club. Couldn't wait to get there. The only problem we had with the stay was the food at the Brasserie. We had lunch there both nights and both nights the food was unacceptable. The 2nd night was the worst. We had booked a babysitter for our youngest and put the eldest in the Big Country and thought was could have a lovely peaceful dinner. Table was booked for 7.30pm. Got there 5 mins early, got table and order our food. Starter came fairly quickly and was excellent. However, we had to wait over 30 mins for our main course to arrive and this was telling the waiter that we had to go back for the babysitter at 9pm. We got our meal at 8.25pm. My husband order vension sausge. The first was really tasty and hot whereas the second was not cooked properly in the middle. I ordered the red snapper. This came fried to a crisp and burnt around the edges so there was a burnt taste throughout! The dinner time for the kids was also a disaster. It was a busy weekend and if you were later in getting to the restaurant you had to wait 20/30 mins for them to bring out more food. It was a buffet consisting of pizza, fish cakes, beans, fries etc. Not exactly gourmet stuff.

The restaurants don't seem to be able to handle being fully booked. Its not as if they don't know how many tables are booked as you are asked to pre-book your table.
Having spoken to other people who where there it was really a hit or a miss whether you got a good meal or not in any of the restaurant at the Hydro. As I said everything was excellent apart from this. I would go ahead but I think I would go self catering and do my own cooking next time.
