“Stunning location, friendly staff, faded grandeur. Food below par.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2011

My wife and I arrived at 2.30pm, to find the breakfast bufffet food still set out. Next morning, the halved grapefruit looked dried up. Dinner was disappointing & not worthy of the 2 AA rosette.
Our room (No2) could be described as "Faded grandeur" Overall, expensive in comparison with other establishments on Skye.

The staff are friendly, but the building is in need re-furbishing.

Just a perfect Scottish Inn with fabulous hospitality. The room was lovely and the miniature whisky was a lovely touch. The food was faultless and the Mallaig peat smoked salmon to die for. We had a wonderful relaxing stay in a stunning location and we will definitely return.

“Lovely, relaxing stay”

We stayed here on a friend's recommendation and we couldn't have found a nicer place to stay. The location is fabulous regardless of the weather. We stayed in the Garden House which was delightful. Fantastic meals in the bar and excellent breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Cosy fires, quirky rooms. Would highly recommend.

“Hotel Eilean Iarmain: Like a Dream”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

Sometimes I think my stay at Eilean Iarmain was a dream. It’s so precious and beautiful and darling it hardly seems real. Last spring I was part of a group of four traveling through Scotland. We spent just one perfect night at the Eilean Iarmain and I long to return.
Perhaps one reason it is so special is that it is not easy to get there; the journey requires a ferry ride to the Isle of Skye and then an additional drive through beautiful sparsely populated countryside. The hotel is down at the end of a winding road - right on the water. But it has everything one needs – pub, restaurant, gift shop – even an art gallery. I loved the quiet escape of it all; there are no TVs or radios in the room and mobile phone reception is spotty at best.
Since there were four of us – the hotel had recommend that we stay in the Garden House – just a few steps away from the main hotel. (We were told that the hotel rooms above the pub can get a little noisy on the weekend so we appreciated the advice.)
I recommend the Garden House if you are traveling with a group. If I remember correctly - the house has 2 floors with 3 rooms on each floor. We almost felt like we had our own private cottage. The rooms are darling though the bathrooms were a bit small. (Welcome to Europe!)
The staff is friendly but a little quirky – which adds to the hotel’s charm. I would not call these luxury accommodations but nor is it rustic. It's other-wordly. It's magical. I hope my photos capture it's uniqueness. I recommend waking early and taking a stroll. It was one of the most serene experiences of my life - just me and the singing birds and bleating lambs. Pure bliss!

“Cosy, toasty, snuggly, lovely,relaxing”

I spent one night here on a business trip, I loved it so much I came back the following Saturday with my wife. What can I say, the views are spectacular, the atmosphere is incredible. One of the best spots we have ever stayed in. The restaurant is terrific for a romantic meal but if you are the sort of person who uses Trip Advisor and loves outdoors then keep your relaxed clothes on and eat in the bar, a warm welcome and good food.
This place is one of those spots that you will never forget. Loved it to bits!!!
