I was recommended this place by some residents of Stornoway and stayed for a night in the summer of 2007 or 2008 (can't remember exactly which year now!) I really enjoyed the place. It's not subsidised by the Gatliff Trust unlike the most popular Hebridean hostels. Most of the people stopping by for a night seemed to be cycle touring, and the warden at the time was a welcoming young lady of Malaysian extraction. There was a great sitting room with a guitar, cracking ope fire & kitchen & there were fresh eggs & bread to be had in the morning from a nice lady in the Post Office a few doors along. Sleeping quarters were basic dorms with bunks but clean and quite O.K. Magical wee place!
