The castle hotel Llandovery is in the centre of town and is a fine looking building. Part of taste Wales, the food was lovely. The breakfast superb. The staff also were helpful and friendly, making you feel very welcome.
The rooms are being newly refurbished but unfortunately there in lies the current teething troubles. Our room looked lovely but a problem with the plumbing meant a noise like a pneaumatic drill woke us up at 6:30a.m both mornings and on each morning the water was cold in the shower. Plus the heating in the room had failed on Saturday, which we didn't discover until we returned late in the afternoon, on a day the weather was around 1degree. The room never warmed up after that and we were sat IN bed at 9pm because it was too cold to be outside the covers. Also a change to the tv provider meant that the television, which had worked fine on Friday night, suddenly had no channels on Saturday night. . .in time for the Final of one of the most popular tv programmes not to be available. These things were a shame because if these 'hotel' areas were sorted out, this would be a lovely hotel.
But the hotel staff recognised these problem areas and discounted our stay, so again, they are making every effort to be accommodating to guests.
Small things in the refurb. . . . No hooks in the bathroom means nowhere to hang your toilet bag or bathrobe. Only a bedside lamp on one side of the bed means an inconvenience to the person without a light. . . And why have only One comfy chair in a double room. Or a couch that its impossible to see the tv from?
Hope they sort out these teething troubles because I would stay there again.
