After 5 nights in the rather busy and populated, but still beautiful and eventful Negril [See our entry titled: We all should Idle Awhile], we wanted something more laid back (although we had no idea how laid back). So, we headed to the Southern Coast to a small community called Calabash Bay in Treasure Beach. We stayed at this absolutely perfect little beach front inn called Marblue Villa Suites. First of all, expect a dramatic culture shock when you arrive at this little hide-away, because there are no busy roads, honking car horns or pushy salesmen on the beach. Secondly, expect unparalleled and very personal attention to your every need. Axel, Andrea (your hosts) and their friendly staff (numbering almost 1 staff member per room) really take care of you. From the time you take your morning dip in either of the fresh water pools to the time you finish your exceptional 3 course dinner, someone is there to make your cocktail or just to chat. I want to especially convey that this place and these people, for us, completed our Jamaican experience. Every night, Axel prepares a feast, and will often ask what your heart desires before he puts his culinary brilliance to work. So, I highly recommend that you purchase the dinner option. It is well worth the additional expense, and its probably a better value than you could enjoy anywhere else. Axel also prepares your breakfast and lunch, which are also always fresh and extremely tasty. I must mention the rooms. When you come through the door to your suite and look straight ahead of you to the other end, you see this huge picture of the ocean. Only it's not a picture. The front of your suite is wide open to the carribean sea. It's a little like watching a movie with sounds, smells and a breeze. The waves are crashing literally 50 yards from your verandah. I recommend getting a second floor suite, although all of them come with a view that will tranquilize you. Although there are outings such as Black River or YS Falls, don't overbook your stay here. Just let it do what it's meant to do and truely relax and heal. We walked for some distance on the beach in each direction, and only saw a handful of human beings, locals mostly. We also found our own little slice of beach where we cooled off in the ocean, truely alone! We will be back to Marblue as soon as our schedule allows. Axel and Andrea should be very proud of their little slice of heaven.
