We stayed there for a week in August 2009. While some things were nice, a few things left to be desired. We still had a great and wonderfool time, but owners really should try and improve it. I know it's an old place and as someone from the other property/establishment at falls creek put it ;"...they've doing it for too long. and just probably tired.." But...not really up to standard.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place, just noot modern, so don't expect anything of that kind. The food (dinners) are really nice (set soup &entree, your choice of main & dessert). They have a kid's club as well - should be very convinient for the parents with the kiddies. Location is really good - next to the chairlift, shuttle bus is there too (if you're a beginner, you can get the bus to get to the more beginner-friendly chairlift). Ski hire in a hotel (and you get a discount).
Staff (hired young guys (and girls) are really friendly and nice. However!!! The rooms are a bit dated for a 3.5 stars hotel. While they clean and tidy, they desperately need a major renovation! The rooms look tired - rusty bathroom doors, overall oldish look. A mirrow in the room (like over the desk) would've been nice. I would also love a bathtub, not just a shower (but that's just me). The water pressure in the shower is baaad. The room isolation is almost non existant, you can hear your neughbours and all. The rooms are pretty basic but you get everything you need. Little kitchenette with a sink and a fridge.. TV, movies (2 channels)- whatever DVD is on (you can request a certain one at the bar:)
The other thing - the staff, all these young girls who are your waitresses at breakfast and then cleaning/housekeeping ladies later straight after it. The thing is they would just do 1 knock and immediately break in the room (you can't lock the door, there's no chain or anything), as they assume that at about 10 am you should be already out on the slopes, not in your room:) A bit annoying.
Another thing is pool - open from 2 till 8 (I think), the set dinner is at 7 pm (so you can't really go there anyway). Spa - till 6 pm. What's the point??? You supposed to be skiing anyway during the day, once you're back- have to go to dinner (it's included in the tariff),it's already closed??? Kind of useless.
It seems the hotel is owned by 2 families. One was really really nice, welcoming and friendly (there are paintings by this lady in the rooms). And the other...Like you come down for dinner or anything, walk past reception and they would totally ignore you??? No smile or "Hi!" I don't know< I got a feeling maybe because we (my husband and I) were on a younger side(late 20-s early 30-s? The majority of the guests seems to be a bit older, like over 40, 50. And probably repeated guests as well. So we felt a bit out of place there. Like they didn't care about us, some young people they don't know:) but would be ohh so friendly with some of the other older guests. What upset me the most - 2 times in a row we booked a table only to find out it wasn't booked/some other people were seated there. result - 2 dinners in a row we were seated next to the toilets - first time male, next time - female:( What the hell happened? they don't know. The lady we booked it with at reception wasn;t on duty for dinner. Very dissapointing. Like, it's not a huuge hotel, only as many guests you have at one point in time. Definitely can account for. especially when it's booked in advance.
But anyway, it was ok, I guess. Would I return there? I'm not sure...probably not
