The Brooklands is not what an American would consider a Best Western or mid-level hotel it is better. It was very comfortable and extremely well located within walking distance to the Mornington Main Street, cafes, good eats and the marina.
Room spacious and comfortable
Staff extremely friendly and professional
Conference venue was adequate and comfortable
Breakfast buffet was also very adequate
Internet connectivity was POOR.
Extortionist prices on mini-bar items!! :-)
Things to consider:
Australia is a GSM digital phone system.. If you only have CDMA digital tech on your cell phone it won't work. You will need VOIP or Skype and a good internet connection if doing business or staying connected to the outside world.
Change money at the airport. Mornington is a "developing" tourist area and the banks for the most part do not offer currency exchange. I did find one bank (Bank of Queensland) that worked through it with me, but I was their first.
Getting a transfer from the Airport to Brooklands is about $195.00 USD. Call the hotel prior to arrival and they may be able to assist with a lower rate... it will still be expensive though.
Go down to the Marina and eat at "The Rocks".. I went there for a conference catered event and just as a lad looking for good food... In both cases, I was not disappointed. They have spectacular everything!!!
Take a trip over to Phillips Island and see the wildlife in particular the penguins. It was an awesome trip.
Head to "The Social" on main street on Saturday night. It was a blast...good wine, tapas and I met some really great people.
