“Love it. Have stayed twice while in Nashville wanted to stay this time but rates were raised substantially”
We have stayed at the Hutton for the past two Summers. Each time we loved our experience. Here's why:
After reading so many positive reviews on Trip Advisor and comparing ratings, we found that the Hutton actually lived up to our expectations. Reviews were not padded.
The staff is friendly and the rooms are spotless. We loved the shower (unique shower head) and upscale toiletry products in dispensers.
We liked that it was close to Vanderbilt University, down town Nashville and the Gulch.
We absolutely loved that there is a complimentary upscale coffee/espresso machine on every floor. I need my coffee first thing in the morning and it was easy to pop out into the hallway to grab one any time. At times, however, I found that the milk dispenser was empty which was a bit of a bother because I had to go up two floors in search of milk. But not a game changer.
In the afternoons they serve complimentary wine (red & wine) in the lobby in generous glasses. Wonderful. Also loved that I could take my unfinished glass up to our room.
We travelled with our little Westie and she benefited from the wonderful doggie program. Our dog was given food and water bowls, a little bag of treats, a toy and a doggie bed. She was in pooch heaven! It was such a delight that we could bring our little dog to the wine reception. Guests and staff loved interacting with her and we loved that she got some extra attention after being cooped up in the room all day, while we enjoyed our wine.
The complimentary drink dispenser situated near the lobby was a really nice touch. I loved the cucumber water and mixed juices. Quite refreshing after returning from a day of sight seeing in the blazing sun.
The complimentary shuttle from the hotel to down town Nashville was also a value added service. It worked out perfectly as we didn't have to take our car and worry about parking down town. Tips for the driver are recommended.
From a marketing perspective, it is important that management understand why loyal guests switch. In our case, this time around, we switched to the Aloft Hotel in Franklin for the following reasons:
Rates - we noted a huge increase in rates compared to what we paid on our last two visits.
In comparing the Aloft with the Hutton, we found the room decor at the Aloft were quite similar to the Hutton's - as were guest reviews and rating points on Trip Advisor.
The Aloft is a newer hotel and therefore has less wear and tear, which is always nice.
They also have a doggie program but they do not charge extra it. Please consider waiving your doggie stay fee.
There is a nice salt water pool for cooling off after a long day out and about. Complete with swan shaped towels. While the Hutton can't compete here. They can add value in other areas.
The Aloft has a nice outside patio complete with chairs and a shelter. Very handy for those with or without a dog who just want to get out of their room to sit and enjoy the fresh air. There is also a grassy area for walking the dog right next to the hotel. We wished the Hutton had this. An added bonus for those returning to the hotel just to let the dog out. At the Hutton, we had to walk through the concrete parking lot and down the street to find a patch of grass for our dog or walk further along the side walk to the Vanderbilt Campus - not convenient, especially at night.
The Aloft has a game room/store and snack bar onsite to purchase snack items as well as a bar.
Parking a the Aloft is free. Consider waiving your parking fee.
Internet at the Aloft is also free. Consider waiving your internet fee as most hotels now have free internet. And it is annoying to find out after checking in that one has to pay or bring their computer down to the lobby to work. This does not fit the perception of an upper end top service hotel.
The Aloft is only about a 15 minutes drive from Nashville and we were ready to make this compromise because of the rate increase. In addition, because it will be our 3rd visit to Nashville we rationalize we had seen all we needed to see and because of higher rates, we were ready to experience another side of town.
The Aloft has a major mall and a number of restaurants within walking distance - another reason to switch. Especially for those who love to shop.
With that being said, we have yet to stay at the Aloft in Franklin, I am simply highlighting the decision making process of a loyal guest who had to switch because of higher price points. We rationalized all of the above and this time around, the Aloft won.
To summarize, guests are to be price and amenities sensitive. The Aloft won for added value in price, free doggie care, free parking, free internet, the fact that they have a salt water pool, an outdoor patio and their hotel is new.
We still love the Hutton and would considering returning next year if the aforementioned changes are taken into account. Although if we end up loving Franklin, we noted in our research that a Dury Hotel will be opening in Franklin this September. More competition and more to offer...
I will miss the staff, complimentary coffee bar and wine this time around. Hoping for added incentives to return.
