For those of you venturing to TN this summer, make sure you have the Pancake Pantry added to your list of "must eateries" when you get to Nashville. This has been a Nashville tradition for 50 years ... celebrating this year as a matter of fact.
All of the pancakes on the menu are delicious, however the best ones are without a doubt, the Sweet Potato Pancakes served with a creamy cinnamon syrup. You can get two eggs any style, two pancakes and a cup of coffee for less than $10.
An insiders tip is if you are planning to go on a weekend, plan to arrive either very early or very late in the day as by mid-morning until about 2 pm, there will be a line out the door and around the block. This is no exaggeration! I've seen people wait 1.5 hours for the pancakes here ... YES THEY ARE THAT GOOD ... and even in the rain. Plus I think when the Universities are in full swing, the line consists mostly of hungover college kids. The Pancake Pantry opens early and closes between 3 pm - 4 pm, closed for dinner.
Not to worry, everyone is polite as most of us tend to be here in the South. Another tip, if you park out behind the building, make sure you pay for the parking. They monitor the parking lot frequently as it's shared by all of the merchants in the village.
When you are finished, Hillsboro Village is a great place to wander. Must sees for a little shopping are Davis Cookware (Mr. Davis has been eating at the Pancake Pantry for 50 years and he is the one that the artist used as a model when they painted the front of the restaurant with a gentleman walking into the building). You also have Pangea, the Fire Finch and Posh. All good.
