The plan was to have an activity filled, fun birthday getaway for my husband, Jim. What really happened was wonderful rest, meeting new and interesting people, a recharging of our energy. Our lives preceding our visit were busier than usual so the rainy weather didn't bother us much. We did regret not being able to fish longer than we did and not using the complimentary mountain bikes and ping pong table more but relaxing on the deck outside our room or in the lodge's beautifully appointed living room more than made up for the wet weather. We took full advantage of the giant collection of DVD's to view in our room and enjoyed playing board games in the evenings while eating a home made complimentary dessert. Coffee, soft drinks and snacks were available 24/7. Both mornings we were served sumptious breakfasts. One evening we opted to take advantage of grilling our dinner in the screened-in pavilion which turned out to be a romantic, candle lit experience with enough food for 4 people. Nothing was omitted from the prepared basket given to us for our meal. Our hosts, Patrick and Sue, were generous with their advice about the area. Plus, they actually built the lodge themselves and the scrapbook depicting its "birth" is amazing to read. The lodge and surrounding landscaping are beautiful but the view from the back balcony is breathtaking. You would never know it's just down the road from Dollywood - it's so peaceful. When we said we would return we definitely meant it!
