As a former Marine and being in law enforcement I have slept in some places you'd rather not like to know. With that said we (wife, 3 kids under 6, sister in law and tiny kids, and wifes' parents) arrived at the largest of all the Timberwinds cabins (4 bdrm) on July 31. My wife and I got there early about 2:30pm and everyone else arrived after 4pm. Well, all was good until we walked in and there was the flooring coming up from the sub-floor, like a wave of laminate. My 21 month old fell, 4 yr. old fell, and I tripped. This was no problem, really, b/c I was going up to play pool in the loft. Well, the pool sticks had no tips and the table was ripped- no good!! Decided to go to the hot tub with the kids but was told that it was broken the day before arrival- WHAT!! Then there was no remote for the Tv- I was told it was lost a month ago and universal remotes will not work? So, we notified the desk clerk we would like to speak with the manager who was on site somewhere we were told and she was going to refund us one nights stay- how nice:)
Later that night the toilet over flowed and the pull out couch was broken... come on now we are at a 160.00 plus tax a night cabin, not a KOA site. We notified the desk again and she, without us asking, said we'll give you a full refund. GREAT!! Then the owner finally comes to see us the next day at 2pm (we got the refund about 11am). He asks us to leave and we put up a little resistance. We advised him that the floor is jacked up, the toilet flooded, hot tub broken, pul out bed broken.... he says the place is being remodeled and no one else has complained- REALLY!! The girl at the office just told us that some folks have complained b/c of the remote and flooring issues. He continues and says that after all this since we are not happy we need to leave. Wait- we booked this 2 months ago and we arrive to your disaster? Come on. The father-in-law negotiates a plan where we can stay in 3 one bedroom cabins for the same price. This was fine with us b/c we had nowhere else to go with 3 families on site and 2 days into our 4 night stay! We re-pack and go up the hill to I think 164, 163, 162 all adjacent to each other. My sister in law walks into her room and there is a 4'x4' cobweb from the shower framed wall to the ceiling, giant crickets in her bathtub jets (which you can't us b/c the plug doesn't go down in the tub). Father-in-laws cabin- they finally caught a mouse running around for 2 days in the cabin, spider webs inside everywhere. Now our cabin- dishwasher broken (ran all day while we were at Dollywood), another giant spider 6 yr old woke me early one morning to show me while the spider was climbing back up to the rafters, holes in the exterior walls where you can see out in the daylight, a/c vent/filter near fridge totally clogged up, 2-3" exposed nails that was trying to keep the base trim in near fridge- a total bummer. We were expecting so much more (we went there on our honeymoon 8 years ago and loved it)- could be new management- I don't know? But whatever it is- it is not safe, sanitary, or recommendable. I hope they can fix the issues before they ruin what used to be pretty site. Sorry Timberwinds- you just lost an annual multi-family getaway. Let me reiterate these were suppose to be CABINS not campsites!
