Weekday stay, the hotel was quiet. The hotel is set back far from the road which makes it a tranquil place to stay. The pool area is awesome, lazy river is heated and very pleasant.
Checking in was a breeze. Pleasant front desk staff (day) and very informative. Rooms were big, bathrooms were exceptional, furniture was worn and dated, carpet needed replacing. Beds were nice but bedspreads were thin and dismal. The rooms are in a very peaceful setting.
Tons of activites...horseshoe throwing, hiking, pool area, ride bikes (plenty for adults and free), firepit at night, sit on a longhorn that has been saddled up, pony rides, horse carriage rides, animals to see on side of hotel.
Animal staff was excellent. The hotel did not inform us that smorsgaborg (marshmellows, crackers, and chocolate) are available for free at the front desk. If you havd little ones there are plenty of tricycles but there is only 1 small bike with training wheels.
Food at the pool was good. Wait staff was great. Bartender kept talking to one and only female customer when we tried to ask a question.
Breakfast was good in the Firewheel rest. Eggs tasted funny. Food arrived quickly and service was good. There was no buffet during the week.
Rest closes early for dinner. Ordered food from bartender. When we returned to pick up food, there were four bartenders standing around talking to each other. Stood there for five mins before anyone recognized I was there and offered help. Food was cold and nasty.
Evening front desk staff was clueless about next days activites. He did not know the location of where the horse ride would be the next morning. Pass the buck....you can with the concierge in the morning..really...was that an option.
The concierge regency room was stilll closed from winter. They were scheduled to open memorial day weekend. Overall the hotel was properly staff and someone was always nearby to ask a question.
It is a quick walk to get to any part of the hotel. The grounds are spotless and pristine.
Nature rooms face the rear of hotel.
