I live in the Dallas area so I actually seldom stayed at this property however I have used their restaurant and bar since they opened for personal and business meals and meetings. My experience this morning was very aggravating.
I just landed from a 10 hour flight from South America. My cell phone was absolutely dead and I needed to call my ride home to let him know I had arrived and to pick me up. My plan was to go up to the Grand Hyatt, make a very, very quick "I am home, pick me up at Terminal D at the Hyatt", then go to breakfast, even knowing I'd be paying airport prices for my two eggs. Front desk area was clear of customers and I walked up to the desk person and asked if I could use their phone for a local call for literally half a minute as my cell was dead, then go eat breakfast. "No", he said. When I asked him why, he stammered around then said "the phones at the front desks (reception and concierge) can't call outside the hotel. Seriously?
Without being allowed to use the phone, I still went into the restaurant and ordered the standard $14 egg plate and "a cup of coffee". The bill came and my 'cup of coffee' was SIX DOLLARS. Having traveled for business for over thirty years, I am well aware of airport pricing and have been paying dearly for the convenience of airport eating and drinking. But seriously, $6 for 'a cup of coffee' is ripoff. Add that to my frustration of the front desk experience and - while customers say this all the time and then end up returning - "I will not spend another cent at the Grand Hyatt and refuse to meet a friend or colleague there".
