My wife and I live in Dallas but stayed two nights while attending a ball. We stayed in The Tower (be sure to ask for it) which has been completely updated and renovated. The bed, room, desk and lighting in the room was very nice. The bathroom, though brand new, is still small but okay. Towels were fresh and excellent. Good hair dryer and a magnifying mirror, mouthwash, and the usual other extras. The shower curtain was on a curved shower rod which we like.
The elevators were very quick with very little wait even during busy times. It was an easy walk to most areas of the hotel and The Verandah Club, the $15 extra health club facility.
A bottle of water out of the mini bar was just $1.75 (reasonable by big hotel standards) and the coffee brewer was one of those "by the cup" machines. We liked it very much. There is a "Starbucks"-like set up in the hotel's bar area at the bottom of the elevators that was quite reasonable! A BIG cherry danish served on a plastic plate with plasticware was $2.50. I brought my free hot tea from my room and had a nice quick "breakfast" in their bar that is in open area of the lobby.
The HVAC worked splendidly, water pressure and hot water were great, and morning newspapers were welcomed. Yes, the doors are heavy and slam loudly so be careful. That said, we never heard anyone in the hallways or other doors slamming. Nice.
We had dinner in The Terrace Restaurant. There were only 4 tables full the entire time we were there. The problem with that is that waiters are LESS attentive when there are fewer people dining. My wife's side dish was completely forgotten and came out after having to hunt down the waiter and ask for it. To their credit, they did not charge us for it. All in all a good meal that was prepared fairly well.
We tried to use the main hotel pool but it was closed due to chemical treatments. We insisted on being comp'd into The Verandah Club which was only "okay". There was an "out of order sink" in the men's locker room, rusting drain troughs in the pool and yucky tile in the yucky jacuzzi area. In the summer it is probably much nicer, but on a February morning it was not very pretty.
The Anatole has added a "Charge per day" parking lot in the last couple of years so be aware. Their valets were cheerful and efficient as were their check in people.
There is a Denny's across the street within walking distance for those who want to eat a little cheaper. That said, the quickie food in the main open atrium area is reasonable for breakfast, but a bit expensive (like most hotels) for lunch.
We prefer smaller hotels but, overall, this was a good stay.
