I wanted a fair-priced hotel near the TCU campus. Days Inn fit the bill at $46/night, but it really was a total dive. It is located within 1+ miles east of the campus, past a park and river, and in a pretty nicely-developed area (Panera Bread, etc.). There were some more recent suite-type hotels next to the Days Inn, which were probably more pricey.
Unfortunately, the Days Inn looks to be 30-40 years old. It's a classic two-story hotel, with outside entrances along a junky hallway. I was mostly worried about crime, not so much the area, but the fact that this hotel was run-down. The rooms were *ok*.
Continental breakfast was so bad it was funny. How can anyone screw up continental breakfast? They put out small blueberry muffins and plastic-enclosed honey buns. OK. Two overripe bananas dared anyone to try them. The cereal dispenser had Fruit Loops (empty) and Corn Flakes (stale). The jug of milk sat on the table with no ice. The orange juice dispenser emitted a watery substance (not OJ!). Ditto the apple juice dispenser. What about the two coffee urns? They were empty. This was 8am! The front desk had never bothered to make any.
Bottom line. It's cheap. It's run-down. If you have a bunch of twenty-somethings looking to crash cheaply, it's probably ok. If you're a family, look elsewhere. And definitely locate a Waffle House...
