In the Fredericksburg sea of service-mediocrity...Cottages at Limestone on Main shines like a welcoming lighthouse-beacon of hope.
My wife and I went to Fredericksburg for our 10-year anniversary weekend and stayed for two nights at this quaint B&B. We had a wonderful time there, not necessarily because Fredericksburg is the most welcoming place in the world to visit, but because we were away from our two-year-old and 10-month-old children for a relaxing 48 hours...
If you must go to Fredericksburg, apparently you need to do so when there is not a "wine trail" event, coupled with a large city-wide garage sale, coupled with other events... because if you do, you must expect outrageously long waits at restaurants, bars, and biergartens. The staff and owners at such restaurants are simply not equipped to deal with the onslaught of visitors. (We witnessed one individual tell a table next to us who were waiting on their food for over an hour... "You could always go to McDonalds, if you find the wait too long here.") Such is the service-industry sentiment we observed at Fredericksburg. We came away from the place with a sense that as a tourist, you're a captive audience... and there's literally nowhere else for you to go... so shut up, wait your hour and a half for a salad... Wait your 45 minutes to get a beer... or go to the place across the street where you'll have to do the same.
If you must go to Fredericksburg, don't expect to do any "fine dining" (despite the recommendations of the hosts of this B&B... though they were somewhat hesitant in recommending places, I'll admit). If you must go to Fredericksburg, expect long waits everywhere... LONG waits.... LONG LONG WAITS... If you must go to Fredericksburg, eat at a biergarten where you'll pay $45 for passable food rather than $100 for "fine food". If you must go to Fredericksburg... do the winery thing... do the antique thing... but don't expect much from the "food thing". And most importantly... MOST IMPORTANTLY... If you must go to Fredericksburg... you MUST stay at this establishment.
The owners are nice. The place is clean. No previous smokers. It's conveniently located (though in 100+ degree weather, not necessarily easily walkable to downtown... even though it's located on "Main Street"... Main Street is really long!). And bar-none... I kid you not... I have never in my life had a better breakfast than I had at this B&B. I'll say that again. I have never in my life eaten a better breakfast meal than what I was served here. And if you HAVE to go to Fredericksburg, you're going to want an EXCELLENT meal to get you started... because you aren't going to get another one for the rest of the day.
This place deserves your business IF YOU MUST GO TO FREDERICKSBURG.
