Once again I had one of the most memorable meals ever at Via Real in Irving, Texas. No matter how many times we drive from Shreveport, LA and stop to enjoy some of the best Southwestern style food ever at Via Real, I always say "This is the best ever!" Last night I started with the smoked beet soup. Superb! How does the chef do these things? My husband's ceviche did not disappoint. I chose again from the week's Valentine Menu and had the sea scallops cooked to perfection and presented with an indescribably good "mash" of potatoes and bananas. The lemongrass sause was delicate and a great addition. The couple of spears of white asparagus was a fitting touch. Of course, by then I had to go full out and order the special Valentine's dessert of fresh strawberries served with a hint of black pepper, de leche Ice cream and whipped cream and a delightful sauce. As we headed back to Shreveport, we spent a good bit of time debating ways of recreating the dishes we had just enjoyed. There is no way....that chef's gifts are beyond the likes of even those of us who think we are real "foodies" and cooks ourselves. We promised ourselves not to wait another year before returning.
