If you're going to Nine Beaches the first thing I will tell you to definitely do is get a cabana on the water. Here are the highs and lows:

Pros:
1) cabanas on the water are incredible. You fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the ocean and it doesn't get any better than that.
2) the beaches...there are nine of them, and they are all mostly small (i.e. some fit only 6 people, if that) and I loved that because I hate busy beaches.
3) The phones: Nine Beaches gives all guests cell phones which are fabulous for when you need to contact the front desk or simply call for a cab if you visit Hamilton, this was an INCREDIBLE convenience.
4) Breakfast is very good (for dinner see below).
5) People are very nice--both at the resort and in Bermuda, just the nicest, nicest people.

Cons:
1) Dinner was a disappointment. I think we ate on the property twice and it left a lot to be desired. We then went into Hamilton for dinner and that is what I recommend (get a cab to do so). Hamilton has some great restaurants.

Things to remember:
1) This is not the Ritz; these are waterproof canvas cabanas on the water (and on land). Which isn't to say that they aren't clean or adorable. It's just to say that if you're looking for lush accomodations please don't come here. What you have instead is a romantic setting, clean rooms which give you everything you need (big bed, clean linens, towels, toiletries, shower, beach bag, hairdryer, table with chairs, couch, balcony with chairs, NO TV).
2) I recommend that people come to visit starting in late May. we went early-mid May and I did not get into the water past my knees (my husband did). It's beautiful and you can lay on the beach but the water is too cold then.
3) As far as activities, you can snorkel, do paddle boats, play tennis (not new court/raquets), pay extra for a sailboat tour and snorkeling (I recommend this).

All in all if we go back to Bermuda we would go back to nine Beaches because of how amazing it was to wake up on the water. and oh that clean water.

Our family (4 sons ranging in age from 20 to 14) stayed at this lovely resort during the Christmas/New Year's break, '07-'08. I contacted the resort directly and the person I dealt with was knowledgable and I was extremely pleased with the price I was quoted- which was quite a bit less than if I had used Expedia. We were able to afford three cabanas on the water- these cabanas have viewing panals in the floor to watch the undersea world and have a wood frame and a canvas body- like a very sturdy tent. There were a ton of cool fish- I wish I was more knowledgable about what species we saw. We watched one large fish spawn over the rocks- biology class in action! Every person on the staff was friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make sure we were having a wonderful time. The food was delicious! I was worried with 6 of us, all having our own different tastes, that the food choices would be limited. Not so- every dish we had was excellent! The breakfast buffet, which was included, you know how it is at some places-a muffin and coffee? Not here- a wide range of hot dishes, delicious fresh fruit, the works. We sea kayaked, played tennis, worked out in the gym, sailed a catamaran, lounged on hammocks overlooking the blue water, fished off of our porch (didn't catch anything!) and swam. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for something different- to the food (wild boar ravoli- delicious!) to the accomodations (ok the one night we had gale force winds the cabana was a little loud!). The only aspect of the resort that gave us pause was being able to hear what was going on in other cabanas at times. Which is not a fault of the resort- if you are in a "tent" sound will travel- some people forget this. I would highly recommend 9 Beaches.

“9 Beaches All That It Says”

9 Beaches Resort

We were at 9 Beaches for the final week of the season, with eight of us staying in three different cabanas. Conditions in the cabins were somewhat spartan, but comfortable, and all was much as described by the resort. Apparently guests have arrived and been disappointed that the conditions were not as they thought they would be, but to those people I say, "Did you read about 9 Beaches before you booked?" Food in the restaurant and bar was good, and the breakfasts (included in the rates) were hearty and filling and tasty. Veranda very nice for meals.

Although some activities were limited, we nonetheless got in plenty of sun on the beach, spent some time in the water on nicer days, and kayak'd. The town of Somerset was close enough to walk and hotel staff were at the ready to summon a cab, both for going out and returning later in the day/evening. There were also special events by 9 Beaches such as Bingo and campfire s'mores on the beach that were fun for all.

Finally, not enough can be said about the staff, from the GM who stepped up and beyond the norm on two different occasions, to the desk personnel who met every request with a smile and good cheer. Restaurant and bar personnel and maid servce and other staff made us feel genuinely welcomed. I can imagine that when full in the middle of summer staff could become a bit harried, but for the week we were there, 9 Beaches personnel could not have been nicer or more accomodating. Kudos to all!

“Loved it...again!”

9 Beaches Resort

My husband and I visited 9Beaches for the second time in August for our 3rd year anniversary. The second time was almost as good as the first, minus the really awesome ppl we met the first time we went. :(

All and all, we still love the place. The resort made sure that we were able to book the cabana that we had in 06', so we were very pleased with that. It almost felt as if we had never left! The views and relaxed atmosphere is definately something to want to come back to! We also were very impressed again with the breakfast this year. The breakfast was definitely the highlight of our mornings...especially the make it yourself waffles!

There were only a few downfalls with this visit. 1. the service is still mediocre, but there was a significant change from last time. The resort has new management now, so we could definitely tell the difference from 06'. 2. There seemed to be more of a bug problem in our cabana this time. There were at least 2 cockroaches spotted in our cabana, but my brave husband killed them for me. I also broke out in bumps after sleeping in the bed after a few nights. This same thing happened to my friend back in 06' during her last few nights in her cabana. For some...this may turn someone off, but I'm just naturally sensitive to things that i may be allergic to, so who knows what made me break out.

“An Affordable Gem in Bermuda”

I just came back from a wonderful NYE vacation from 9 Beaches in Bermuda. Having never been to Bermuda I didn't know what to expect, and I was so pleased with 9 Beaches and Bermuda as a whole. I highly recommend 9 Beaches if you are looking for a casual, friendly, affordable place to stay in Bermuda. The staff was exceptional--they really take the time to get to know you on a personal level. Since it was off-season, the resort itself was a bit quiet, which I personally liked. The beaches are beautiful and the cabanas are so much fun. My partner and I woke up every morning to watching some exotic fish and birds frolick in the crystal clear ocean beneath our cabana (we stayed in #7 Top Banana). The food was decent, but I also recommend going into town and checking out the Salt Rock Cafe. I also recommend going horseback riding at Spicelands, it was amazing. The 9 Beaches staff is VERY attentive and will arrange any taxis or minibuses for you. Just something to take into consideration, 9 Beaches is on the opposite side of the island where St. Georges is located, and about 20 minutes from Hamilton. It's about 15 minutes to Dockyard. Also, there is a farm close by where you can hear the occasional cow or rooster, we did not smell anything foul like some other people wrote in reviews.

9 Beaches is a great resort! They made our New Year's Eve very special and we look forward to coming back in 2008!
