Six of us recently tried La Perla again Tues 8th June 2010. We telephoned ahead and requested indoor seating rather than the terrace as the evening was quite cool. We arrived for 9pm and were sat straight to table indoors as requested. Very quickly menus arrived and drinks order taken.
A pre starter of prawn and avocado was served whilst we perused the menu.
There are around 16 starters to choose from plus a further 6 on a seasonal menu insert to the main menu. 2 of us tried King prawn wrapped in smokey bacon wrapped in aubergine in a "crispy pancake style" from the seasonal menu. They were excellent and the other 4 were quite envious. 2 of them had King prawn salad, 1 had melon & ham and the other a chicken caesar salad. All enjoyed.
Mains, again chosen from around 14 or so main dishes. 2 had fillet steak, duck in a raspberry sauce (tastes far better than it sounds) a sea bass, 1 steak tartare (not my cup of tea but it did look nice) 1 leg of lamb, which was from a small lamb but very well cooked pink to his liking.
All washed down with 3 bottles of chardonnay and 2 bottles of Marques de Caceres Rose. (4€ supermarket 12€ restaurant). We also had around 4 bottles of still water which didnt appear on the bill.
As we were sat near the door we had seen loads of various desserts taken out to the terrace tables which certainly looked very nice as they passed by. So of course we didnt turn down down the dessert menu, after a 10 minute break of course.
2 of us had a strawberry mille fueille which was layers of fanned strawberry, layer of brandy snap type disc, layer of fresh cream and then the heap drizzled in choclate sauce. mmmmm,......... Others had Creme Brulee, a Pavlova with raspberries, a dish of ice cream and a Hot fudge cake with ice cream.
We had a damn good splurge and the total bill came to 309€. (the chardonnay was 25€ per bottle).
Not an everyday meal, but well worth it for an occasion. I must say that the service was excellent. A busy restaurant with just 3 waiting on staff and all of the time being very attentive. Whenever they saw us reach for the wine bottle one of them took over and poured for us.
For 4 of us this was our 2nd visit. For all of us it wont be our last.
