I'm not one to complain and this is my first ever review, but I thought I owe it to society to warn you away from this absolute hell hole! I thought this had to be some kind of joke and we were being secretly filmed for some hidden camera show.
We booked 3 rooms at the Minerva Apartments over a long weekend. Granted the place doesn't look like the Ritz, but it was cheap and you generally get what you pay for. Unfortunately I believe WE should have been payed to stay here!
Our transfer from the airport informed us that we would receive a welcome pack from the hotel reception that would let us know when we would be picked up on Monday evening. Upon arrival (no welcome pack in sight) and dodging dog mess around the hotel pavements, we were told that only one room of the three was ready. We decided to use that room as base for our bags whilst the other two were being "made up" for us. We got to the room and everyone was speechless (believe me, this was not in a good way). The room reminded me of what a foreign prison would be like. It had dated and broken furniture, small squeaky beds with slats missing, no mirrors (we had to buy one for each room in the end), a shower that just dribbled water, no kettle, microwave tv, or toaster. The cooker dials were being held on by tape. This room was clearly too small for three people to stay in. It was so cramped that we had to move the wooden table on to the balcony. The be-day in the bathroom was so close to the toilet that you had to sit on the toilet at an angle so not to bash your knees.
The next two rooms were just as diabolical. We had requested to all be next to each other or at least on the same floor. Instead we had a room on floors 2,4 & 5. We were told by the rude man on reception that at least we were in the same building! Not exactly a warm welcome.
During our stay we did not see one cleaner. We asked at reception for some clean towels and extra toilet rolls - his reply was "No". I don't have the key and the cleaner isn't in". Luckily there was a supermarket nearby.
Night times were really hot so we slept with the balcony doors open. The problem with this was all the noise from outside - party goers, building work (which started at the crack of dawn), a random church bell that went off every 30 mins for about 3 minutes at a time, dogs barking. The hotel had a notice in reception that said they took no responsibility for the dogs that made noise in the hotel and to call the police if we had a problem.
Our flight home to the UK was a late one on Monday so we inquired on Saturday about keeping our rooms for longer. We were told that one of our rooms would be available but to come back on the Monday to see the Booking Office. Come Monday the same old receptionist told us it was a public holiday and the Booking Office was shut!! Did he not know about this public holiday on Saturday?! He refused to look in the book and said there were no rooms left despite what he told us on Saturday. Very frustrating. We asked if we could store our luggage somewhere for the day, he point blank said "No". In the end we found a lovely 3 star hotel about 5 minutes away who were happy to help us out and stayed there for the rest of the day.
As we didn't receive a welcome pack on arrival as suggested, we asked the unhelpful man at reception what time our transfer would be there to pick us up. The response was rude, abrupt and said he didn't know as he didn't book the transfers. We ended up calling them ourselves. Worst customer service skills ever.
All in all we did really enjoy our time in the resort. The marina and promenade areas are lovely. But if you are thinking of booking this hotel - DON'T! Spend a little more to get a lot more. The Minerva is a joke. An absolute nightmare.
Don't stay here.
