Stayed at San Diego for 4 nights April 07. Had a problem with our patio door on arrival, reported it to reception & it was fixed straight away.
Reception staff could have smiled a little bit more but otherwise they were fine.
Rooms were very nice considering only 3 star & kept clean with towels changed daily.
Pool area quite small but because it was April & because the Hotel was full of Spanish pensioners it wasn't a problem.
Talking of Spanish pensioners! They were quite rude, they just barged in front of you & never smiled or tried to engage in conversation. Apparently they're subsidised at this time of year by the Spanish government to go on holiday, so most hotels were full of them although it wasn't too much of a problem.
The food was perfectly adequate if slightly repetitive but definitley something for everyone unless extremeley fussy.
The Hotel is situated in a quiet area with only a 5 minute walk to a small beach & approx. 10-15mins walk to the main beach, either along seafront or down through some shops. Don't listen to the reviews that say it's a fifteen minute walk uphill! It's not bad at all, unless you're not used/don't like walking.
Salou itself is very nice with something for everyone.
Booked through Globespan with flights going to Barcelona with a 1hour 15min transfer time.
Would go back as represented good value for money.

Just come back today from staying at San Diego with other family members (who are still there for another week).
Nice Hotel for the price. Quiet not a lot to do there for kids and not a great deal of daytime activities but probably better in high season. Evening entertainment not bad. Had a couple of nighs where you joined in with games which was great fun. Hotel and Pool Area in fact overall clean and tidy. Staff all friendly . I agree the food was repetative although it was edible, with chips for breakfast as well but kept the 18 month old happy in our party. Chef there cooked pancakes in the morning and burgers/hot dogs in the evening. Excellent happy hour in teh bar between 8.30 and 10.00pm. Half a lager from the pump was 1.35 euros so you get a pint for that price during happy hour. Sangria was lovely there as well. Overall an enjoyable holiday. Weather was fantastic. Did not want to come home. We never go to the same hotel twice but if did an allocated on arrival and got his hotel would not be disappointed.

“food not very good”

Best San Diego

26 May 2007

The hotel its self was spotless the mades cleaned the room every day.
I booked this hotel because i had read good reviews of the hotel food, wich i thought was very poor you could not even get a nice piece of fruit. Stayed at this hotel for seven days and lived of chips i then went to the salou park for an extra two nights wich i found to be an excellant hotel so i would look in to going to that hotel before you book the san diego.

My boyfriend and i booked a holiday to salou last june purely to go to Porta ventura...the Holiday was quite cheap about £250 each for 10 nights including flight meals insurance etc,so all in all really good value. We also booked a 14 day pass through our rep at home for Porta Ventura which was good value and a must...mind you, we only went three times, it was too hot to cue (cues massive) and the place was full of extremely loud spanish teens which i found intolerable.
The hotel i must say was basic but lovely and modern and reasonably clean..we were quite impressed by the hotel all in all and the air con was great....the only problem was the noise coming from the entertainment tent which was right underneath our balcony...a really anoying woman doing the entertainment and "i am the music man" playing over and over again..i think my boyfriend and i had it playing in our heads for weeks after. In the end, i just gave up and bought some ear plugs from the pharmacy.
Now to get to the nagative bit...this holiday felt more like costa del Newcastle than costa del sol...there were beer monsters everywhere..(probably due to the fact that it was during the world cup)...and hardened looking women wearing the world on their face and more gold than fort knocks giving you a look that could kill...basically it was like the show Shameless but a holiday special...i felt frightened to look people in the eye in case i got my lights punched out. It didnt feel friendly at all...and there were unrully kids running wild everywhere...basically you had no chance of getting in the pool unless you wanted to get injured by the kids pushing each other etc.
Same for the buffet in the evening...it felt really teratorial like " eh this is my place now get lost, i was here first" and the cue was really badly organised people pushing everywhere. I felt really unwelcomed for the first few days..not by the hotel staff but by the britts ...shame on you britts and i am a british northern girl...but this let the side down.
I really didn't enjoy much at all from this holiday my boyfriend and i felt stressed the whole time we were there and couldn't wait to get back to England...think it almost put our relationship on the rocks because it was so stressfull.
If you like a bit of pike and feel right at home with your footy kit on then this is the holiday for you ..BUT NOT ME! enjoy.

We have just returned from a short break in Hotel San Diego.
We found the rooms very clean and well equipped. The food was very good with plenty choice every day.
Yes -the Hotel was mostly populated by Spanish, but after all - it is Spain you are in.
The hotel was further away from the main streets than we expected and was a good 15 minute walk (uphill )
away from the hub of Salou or the beach for that matter.
Because it was January , most of Salou was shut down so we really had to go into the old town to get shops... etc
Would we return to this hotel, probably not , but only because of its far out location.
It was value for money though !.
