I was quite concerned when I read the reviews on here about going to this Hotel.
Had a mini break here from 5th to 9th May, and looking to book again. The staff are extremely dilligent, Iverno guest relations manager is fantastic at his job, extremely helpfull and is obviously following in Tiego's footsteps, good luck Tiego on your new job, I'm sure you will be sadly missed. The rooms are more than adequote, clean and comfortable, admittedley there were only 2 of us but a 3rd bed would not have been in the way.
The food? Still trying to loose the weight I put on whilst there!! Pigged out a bit as it was very tasty and more than enough choice for anyones taste buds-check local cafe prices to see what a good deal you are getting!!
Free Bus into Salou is very helpfull for those less able to do the 30 min walk, 15 mins to the beach front-on the flat- then a beautifull walk along the beach front into the centre. Do try and do this at night as the fountains are lit up and dancing, it is amazing, extremely clean and pleasant.
Entertainment in the hotel is quite good, quiz nightly-managed to win a bottle of Cava-Bingo, shows on occasion. Thursday evening the hypnotist appeared, only one fake on stage and he busted her, we laughed so much our ribs hurt. Fantastic entertainment and I definately want to see that again. Daytime activities available, but we were too busy on the roof top solorium sunning ourselves and relaxing in one of the 2 jaccuzzis-adults only and totally relaxing-no bar as yet but the exercise is needed to get your drinks from downstairs!!!!!!!! Wish I was sat there now.
OK so it would be hectic in high season, not my cup of tea really, it was average when we were there, we met some really nice people, and sat chatting on the terrace most evenings. I do like the rule of the bar closing at 12am and the terrace being cleared by 12.30am as it is a FAMILY hotel. Alcohol is not available until 12pm-12 hours drinking availability is enough for anyone really. The red wine at meal times comes highly reccommended-sure he drank enough of it!!
The Manageress is extremely helpfull and commited to her job, refreshing to see.
The dining room staff work very hard and are not helped when rude guests place their dirty plates on clean tables, the facility is available to put them on a trolley-yes you are on holiday but surely you wouldn't behave like that at home! Everyone is quick enough to go to the buffet to get their food, which is plentifull with enough choices.
Bar staff are again helpfull and work hard, snack bar food is perfect for the little ones, fish fingers, hot dogs, burgers etc, and the big ones. Ice-cream was available constantly, tea coffee etc to, with some nice biscuits in the afternoon, just in case you are peckish!! Desserts were a bit mundane which in my case was no bad thing, may have needed an extra seat on plane home.
We paid £150 for a 4 night break from Bournemouth, we arrived early and got our wristbands straight away allowing us to have breakfast, very impressed with that, our room was ready at 12.30pm so certainly no complaints there.
Some guests arrived on our departure day and managed to knock a table top off on the terrace, they moved but didn't have the decency to report it. Worried it may injur a small child or break someones toes I mentioned it to the manageress, it was removed immediately to be repaired. We noticed a leak in our room sink, mentioned it to Tiego and it was repaired straight away, considering this was 8pm I am extremely impressed. Unless staff are told about problems that may arise they can not rectify anything.
There are a lack of toilet facilities and I can imagine it would be hectic at full capacity, but we all have a loo in our rooms, and they are close to all ammenities really-maybe a bit of a pain to some. Disabled facilities are good, and as the hotel is on a flat walk to the beach extremely suitable for wheelchair users.
Newspapers available in reception daily, and Fab offer when we were there for 2 days in Port Aventura for the price of one. Taking the grandaughter next time to take advantage of it!
Your money does NOT go far in Spain, change booths in Salou were offering 1.11 euro's to £. Great rate so shop around. We had one drink out, a mug of tea and pint of coke, 5euros, almost £5 dependant on rate you get. Shows what great value for money the hotel is, packed lunches available if booked the night before. Kettles and irons available for just a deposit, found this out a bit too late but know for next time.
If flying low cost then do book suitcases before you leave, £10 each way with ryanair, 20 euros 1 way back if you buy too much duty free. Supermarket at back of hotel for those things you may have forgotten, remember Spain can be a lot dearer than here.
Many thanks to all at Hotel Villa Marina Club for a fantastic relaxing break, hope to see you all soon.
