I wanted to write this review as I relied on the opinions on this website before booking and felt it was only fair that I repaid the effort previous visitors had gone to in helping future visitors make their choice.
Initially we chose this hotel cos we had been last year to their hotel in Menorca and liked the chain and their set up. We knew we wanted to go to Majorca this year and so had a choice of ta number of properties (see their website www.hotelsviva.com), we then based our choice pretty much on the reviews on this site.
We travelled with friends who relied on our judgement, they booked through First Choice, the hotel having no rooms left direct.
First I really don't like the resort, it's just a strip running down from Alcudia which itself is not a patch on Puerto Pollensa. However to bo fair we didn't wander out that much, we either stayed round the hotel or drove.
The hotel is great, apart from the area round the pool which could have down with a good scrub down,it is kept spotless even down to daily polishing of the street lights! The grounds are immaculate with established plants including lime and pomegrante trees.
Like their other properties it is arranged in separate blocks, so no noise of people working past your room at night to get to bar/reception/restaurant.
There are 2 main restaurants, one buffet the other barbeque, you can buy tickets for half board when you get to hotel. Food is good with a decent selection of Mallorcan/Spanish wines. Best bit is a small on site shop that compares well with the nearby spar and has a bread oven for croissants and baguettes on a morning, you need to get there early for doughnuts. San Miguel 60 cents a can, much cheaper than at the bar.
No ned to get up early for beds, although you still need to be down 8ish for a choice and stay with your beds till 9.30 cos till then the pool boy removes which is entertainment in itself - there's a man with job satisfaction! You can hire pool towels from reception for 10$ each returned at end of hols and changed 3x a week.
Rooms ok but not huge, enough for a hot holiday though, ask for pool view if poss, not aware however of any on a main road so no real bad ones.
Guest are very mixed, lots of scandanavians, fins icelandic etc, all seemed to speak such good english, which had the english kids amazed. I'd say brits were 15% kids still had no problems with finding friends although don't ever rely on the fact just cos someone is wearing english footie shirt they are a brit!
Finally entertainment. 7 on site entertainers who organise activities every hour or so and who the kids adored, no all day club if that's what you are looking for. Evening shows generally rough, but aren't they always! Kids were enthralled and we just retired to our balcony and waoted for the music to finish and he kids to return cos it's a secure site they could only get out through main doors. Just depends what you want on an evening.
Finally found the staff extremely helpful starting with the fact that although we booked seperately from our friends, I'd emailed and asked for rooms near and we were put next door to them.
Hope this review moves Viva Blue up the list of hotels in Muro cos it certainly desrves to be higher.
