Having read earlier reviews, we felt that we had to write and put the record straight. Reviewers seem to be hung up about the fact it isn't a '5 star' hotel, yet it says it is. Well, the only people who make that claim are Melia themselves, and there's no independent rating like AA/RAC/Michelin in the UK. We would say simply don't get obsessed about the rating and accept the hotel for what it is. It's not '5 star' like Chewton / Lucknam / Gidleigh, but then it's only €100 pppn for accommodation and all-you-can-eat breakfast and dinner!
If you're looking for young people, funky artwork, contemporary design, a 'vibrant' bar, then move along... this isn't for you. If you're looking for a well-established hotel, with committed staff, spotless communal areas, wonderful pools, beautiful gardens, comfortable rooms, a huge choice at breakfast and dinner, then we would highly recommend this great hotel.
It was our first visit to Gran Canaria, and we travelled with two 'seasoned' friends who'd been to this hotel on eight previous occasions. They were recognised instantly by all the regular staff who made an effort to get to know us too; our whole party were treated exceptionally well. The senior management are always available and discreetly walk around checking everything. Mr Blum, the General Manager, welcomed us and acknowledged us every time he saw us. Lorena, the Quality Manager, was our go-to person for anything that needed to be organised; she was always charming and efficient.
The pool areas are kept clean and are clearly well maintained. There are plenty of loungers and towels, and also waiters, attendants and lifeguards should you require any of their individual services. Your room key operates a gate which gives you access to the outside world - the shoreline path runs along the perimeter, with access to the beach itself.
If available, book a sea-view room, the sunrises and sunsets are stunning. I found booking directly...
