Fortunately we were upgraded from the Cleopatra on arrival as it was full. I say fortunate as the rest of the hotels in the complex are too impersonal and American in style i.e. gaudy and over the top. The service is the most outstanding feature of the Sir Anthony in that any request made to any member of staff is dealt with immediately. The rooms are quite spacious but although the beds are 7'6" wide the matress' are too hard and the pillows too small. There are no tea & coffee facilities in the rooms. The breakfasts are only beaten by the Oriental in Bangkok for variety and quality. One could have a choice of 5 breakfasts cooked to order plus mega choice buffet tables including fizzy wine and smoked salmon. A ground floor room gives you immediate access to the pool and sun loungers and is recommended. Good hotel for couples and families as it is a quiet hotel - not for fun and frivolity. B& B is best as there are plenty of places to eat out in the town. A good place to chill out.

“Ok but not worthy of 5* rating”

Hotel Sir Anthony

Just back from our fourth stay at the Mare Nostrum Resort within the last three years. This time we stayed at the Hotel Sir Anthony rather than the adjoining Mediterranean Palace Hotel. We had a duplex room with a plunge pool (only cold tap to fill so pretty chilly!) which was nice but everything was very tired and out of the 1980s (pink bathroom suite with matching pink loo roll!). The room cleaning service was fantastic. The bathroom had large corner bath for two but was very dark with only lighting above the wall mirror. The pool is small and the those who sunbathe round it tended to think they were quite something which made us chuckle!! The emphasis for this hotel is intended to be small and exclusive but this has resulted in having to go to one of the other hotels or elsewhere for any kind of entertainment. I'd definately recommend the Mare Nostrum Resort but stay at the Mediterranean Palace hotel.

Management Response

(Management representative)

Dear Sir,

First of all we would like to thank you for your constructive comments on your stay at Sir Anthony Hotel.

During the last year we have received various comments over the infrastructure of the Sir Anthony. Most of them have been over the design of the rooms and that it is tired and needs a new face. Taking in count that the south of Tenerife is at a moment of mayor changes, we have taken this year too and decided to renovate fully the Sir Anthony Hotel.

Our main aim is to position the Sir Anthony in the market of the 5***** deluxe boutique hotels. This means that we will adequate the rooms, common areas, restaurants, etc... to the XXI century top hotels. In this case, not only will we renovate the hotel but the services too. This unique settlement offers exclusiveness combined with a personal touch in service and always catering for your comfort, relax and wellbeing during your stay with us.

This renovation process will take place during 6 months and commenced on April ´08. We would be more than happy to receive you again at the new Sir Anthony end of this year.

Once again thank you for your comments and if there is any further information you might request do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Best regards

We have justv returned from our 5th visit to the Sir Anthony and it is getting better. The hotel has had a change of manager and the improvements can be seen. This hotel has only 72 rooms and most of the guests have been there several times before.the gardens are immaculate and the pool warm and inviting(never more than 6 people in at one time). The food is ok but breakfast menu never varies which can be a little boring. The rooms have recently been decorated and are always very clean with beds changed daily and towels twice a day.The staff are wonderful nothing is too much trouble champagne and fruit in rooms on arrival and little treats of cheeses and wine during your stay champagne and chocolates on leaving. Each year we say we will not come next year but we always do.We travel independantly booking direct with the hotel they pick us up at the airport and take us back at the end of our stay. All in all a very relaxing holiday. One last thing they have had new sunloungers they do not have cushions as the old ones did ask the pool boy for a cushion because after two weeks you may need a chiropractor.

“We really loved Sir Anthony”

Hotel Sir Anthony

This is the third time we went to Tenerife. The second time we were there we saw Sir Anthony and wanted to stay there during our next stay in Tenerife. This time we stayed for two weeks.

We were a little troubled because of recent negative reviews. However in our opinion these reviews are not founded.

The five stars of this hotel are absolutely justified. We have stayed in many five star hotels and resorts (St Martin, Aruba, Bonaire, Bora Bora, Tahiti, Petit St Vincent, Mustique etc) so we know what to expect.

The service and quality of the staff was exceptional. Room service never took more than 15 minutes regardless of what we ordered. The receptionist, especially Mrs. Angel Sierra, took care of all our needs and went out of her way to make our stay very memorable.

Our room was very good, much better than we expected. We had a triplex room with a private plunge pool. A very good and large bed (length 2,20 m, width 2,50 m). Two toilets and the bath was large enough for two. Everything very clean and well taken care of.

If you stay on the first floor you do not have any sea view because of the wall and trees that block your view. So make sure you either have a duplex of triplex room or ask for a room on the second floor.

The hotel is perfectly situated between Las Americas en Los Cristianos (15 min walk). Nice beaches. This hotel is for people who are seeking rest, comfort and special treatment. You can use all the facilities of the Mare Nostrum Resort. It was very quiet in the hotel and at the pool area. The pool is small but large enough for the guests of Sir Anthony. Guests of the sister hotels are not allowed to use this pool.

In our opinion this hotel is not suited for children because they have a tendancy to disturb the peace and quiet other guests are looking for in such a small and exclusive hotel like Sir Anthony. The sister hotels have much more facilities for kids. Luckely there were hardly any children during our stay.

We would not advise half board or full board because there are too many excellent restaurants to explore. To name a few: La Rana, La Rincon del Arroz (Los Cristianos) and the best of all: El Pote (Los Cristianos). For El Pote: let the hotel make a reservation and ask for a surprise menu.
We also went to La Vieja in La Caleta for the fish. The view was stunning but the food was awful.

For cocktails you have to visit the Monkey Bar. No doubt the best cocktails of the island. The food is good to.

One negative point is that the traffic has increased a lot during the last 10 years. Driving on the highway and in the villages is much like driving here in Holland. It is very busy so driving is not relaxing. Only when you go more inland (for instance to El Teide) is gets quieter. But if you want to get around you need a car.

We are sure that we will go back and stay at Sir Anthony again. We can recommend it.

We had a room on the first floor which had a sea view - unlike those rooms on the ground floor, which are adjacent, literally, to the pool. The hotel has access to the entire Mare Nostrum resort, the centre of which are two enormous pool areas. The Sir Anthony pool is much quieter and much smaller. Spring time was fine for us but I can imagine that small children at peak holiday times running loose could be a problem for some (see other reviews!!).

Not five star, by any means, but our room was so big it even had a sunken bath. We did not find the staff as attentive or as efficient as you would normally expect from such star studded accommodation. Three * and a fair rating would be about right. Apart from breakfast we did not eat in the hotel, but we found some other great restaurants nearby.

Go to the Guardia Civil and turn right about 200 to 300 yards - two together on the left just next to a Pizza place - very good indeed, but can't remember the names!!!
