Stayed there for 4 days, and enjoyed every minute.
This hotel offers you everything - from 3 big pools, to a large room with a well equipped kitchen, travel services, kind reception services, a supermarket, a small pizzeria in case you do not wish to cook , evening amusement, and all in a decent walking distance to the beach and center.
The only downside (whice is not really a downside...) is that the rooms facing the pool might be a little noisey at times. Also, the hotel is not fully airconditioned so it is something to consider if arriving here mid-summer.
All in all, a very good value hotel. Rooms being cleaned every day, towels replaced at a request or else every 3 days.
Older travelers might find it a little young over cramped.

So I'm a bit late in writing this review, but better late than never right?

I stayed there last year in February '07 with a girl friend, it was a joint 21st present - we wanted a last minute cheap week away to celebrate. We booked this over the phone, and pre-TA discovery, so booked it, packed and went in literally a week - so didn't do any research really!

Luckily I knew someone who had stayed at this hotel, and I was told, as long as I knew that there was menial utilties and it was a place to crash, then it would be fine.

And that's exactly how I would describe it - BASIC. It was a very plain room, with 2 beds, a kitchenette, and a decent sized bathroom! Being a germ phobe, I cleaned all the cutlery in the kitchen, however it was clean to begin with!

One night we had some inconsiderates messing outside the door, which for 2 girls was a bit intimidating, nothing the hotel could absolutely control, but considering there was a basic lock on the door and they were flimsy wooden doors - that was a bit offputting!

Pool was quite big I thought - didn't go in - was too cold in february to go in, but looked very clean!

Beware of other holiday makers (again nothing to do with the hotel) but we left 2 books, a clear plastic bag, and a pair sunglasses on our loungers, we nipped back to our room and when we returned a short while later everything was gone with the exception of 1 book (given there was only about 10 people on the loungers - i thought this stunk a bit!! - but this does not reflect the grade I've given the hotel.

The reason I have not given 5/5 is because a lot of the furniture was very worn, and the sliding doors on the balcony could not be locked properly - so basically it lost a point due to poor maintenance, and the cleaning was pretty dismal. When the maids came they basically folded our covers over the end of the bed, and there was not much evidence of anything else, and for a weeks stay they only came twice, which is a bit poor - IMHO.

Overall it is a very basic hotel, and if you are looking just for a base, then it should be fine.

We watched one show - it was a drag queen and an animal display - was ok, we sat away from the stage though as some of the animals looked a bit "unruly" - one eagle managed to get away from the trainer and was zooming around the lobby - incidently its escape was short lived - as it splatted against a window!!!

The hotel lobby, seating area, etc - is very nice, lots of chairs etc for people to sit in the reception area.

We did not eat in the restaurant - it did not look all the appealing - it was tiny, and we saw the chef continually roaming about in his chef whites, again - just a bit off putting.

Good - for basic base hotel
Bad - for amenities, things to do etc.

If you dont mind a little noise from the clubbers, minimal choices, and basic rooms - then this should be fine - but we did go off-peak season as such, and I believe this is a regular 18-30 hotel in the summer!

Hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions!!!

Happy Travels!!! :0) Mango

“Wouldn't go back if you paid me!”

Las Piramides

28 Mar 2008

My boyfriend and I are 20 and 22 and we stayed here for a week at Easter.

We were lucky to have a quick check in despite the rude staff but once in our room we were greeted by a sink of cigarette smoke and just old mould. The room was quite spacious compared to some other places with a kitchenette but when we opened our curtains we realised our view was of everyone else’s rooms! The middle of the hotel has a courtyard which meant we were staring right into the opposite side’s rooms and vice versa. You had n privacy at all and we had to close the curtains into darkness any time we wanted to get changed.

The cleaners come every day which is good but not at the same time and don’t give you much warning, they just press the buzzer and walk in, meaning once I had to dash into the bathroom ad I was getting dressed! All they seem to do is make the bed as the glasses we used never got washed and out towels only got changed every other day. Someone had turned our fridge off so it leaked and we used the tea towel to mop it up but it never got replaced.

The hotel was generally loud, very tacky (fair enough if that’s your thing!) with entertainment that looked like it was from heidi hi! We could hear everyone and every thing, I never got a good nights sleep and one night there was even blood and glass on the floor by the lifts.

The pool is quite big but absolutely freezing and we had to go down at 7am to put a towel on a bed or you just didn’t get one. I would say the only good thing about the hotel is the supermarket in it where you can buy everything you need for your room but again don’t expect service with a smile!

The resort itself did the job of a cheap winter break but was not for us. There are lots of people hassling you, Africans trying to sell you fake watches and sunglasses coming up to your dinner table, Chinese women selling stupid toys pestering you and young people trying to get you in their tacky bars.

I would say if you can, walk down to Los Cristianos as they have some nice restaurants along the joining road and some shops like Zara and Mango to pass the time! And we would also recommend Sugar and Spice restaurant, it seemed to be the only place that sold food that was a bit different o burgers and chips. We spent a week there and found no Paella! Definitely not the place to go if you want a taste of Spain!

Stayed here over Easter and was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews. However, we were pleasantly suprised!! We travelled with Thomson on one of their pricebreaker holidays and it proved excellent value for money.

The apartments were clean, well furnished and reasonably comfortable. Satellite TV provided a good selection of English channels, so could keep up with Eastenders!!!

The staff were extremely friendly and coudn't do enough to help. Entertainment was provided every evening, with the exception of Friday, and consisted of live acts, bingo, quiz and karaoke. So something for everyone.

Location wise, you couldn't get much better. About a 5 minute walk to town, so close, but not too close!! With a good selection of restaurants and bars nearby. The beach was the same distance away.

Now for the bad point!! In the summer this is used as a young a lively hotel, and I can see why! Even in the winter, there was lots of noise from people coming back from a night out. However, the staff and security were excellent so it didn't cause too much of a problem.

My one recommendation is to not buy excursions from the reps. We booked to go to Loro Parque (which is excellent by the way) but paid way over the odds with the Thomson rep and, to be honest, felt a bit robbed!!

However, all in all a good holiday, very relaxing and great weather!!
