We've just returned from a 4 night, £1,300 break to this hotel. It was not as described at all and really, it should not be allowed to get away with calling itself a 5 star hotel. It should realistically be rated a 3 star.
The positives.....
The hotel itself is beautifully placed, right in the middle of my favourite shops (Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Lacoste etc) and the site is lovely, being right by the beach, an attractive promenade and lots of child friendly facilities.
The hotel amenities are very nice indeed and look impressive - we felt that all their cash had been poured into making the building look lovely, at the expense of the accommodation.
There are lots of great restaurants nearby - you couldn't fault the location.
The staff were almost all charming and helpful and very kind to our shy 3yr old.
The negatives...
We were given a smoking room (we had requested otherwise, but the receptionist looked harrassed so we didn't say anything) and the furniture was quite cheap and nasty. The walls were paper thin and we endured a sleepless night from our first neighbours, who thankfully checked out and gave us some peace!
We were hurried out on the dot of 12 noon on our last day, despite having been promised a later checkout (clearly depended on which receptionist you got!)
The buffet breakfast was truly awful if you wanted a cooked breakfast - the meat looked as if the animals had had heart conditions!! Sticking to continental meant the food was fine (can't go wrong with bread rolls and yogurts!)
In summary - we had a wonderful time despite the disappointment with the hotel room. If we could do it again, we would pick the same location bearing in mind the facilities for our young child, but would not use this hotel, we would try another 5 star hotel.
