“The Pink Palace!”

Cleopatra Palace Hotel

6 May 2008

If you approach the Cleopatra at night, as I did, your mouth will drop open at the lighting, the many (nude!) statues, dusky pink walls with white balustraded balconies, marble entrance foyer. Gorgeous. However, I was expecting the same opulence to continue into the rooms, but alas, they are rather dark and Moroccon in design. Bit disappointing, but very clean. Beds hard. Our balcony, on third floor, overlooked the beach, so we were lucky, although I did have to peer through the fronds of the palm trees which line the promendade, and in a few years, probably will not be able to see the sea at all when the trees have grown taller. Balconies do not have too much privacy, as the side 'screens' between each balcony are only about 2 ft. deep, so unless you were sitting right up to the patio doors, you were on view to anyone else sitting outside on their balconies too!
Beach - well I knew Tenerife was not THE place to go for a lovely beach, and this is no exception really. It is a man made 'horseshoe' shape, with protruding rock walls about 200 yards out to sea, to keep back the huge Atlantic rollers. Sand silver grey on top (immaculately cleaned every morning, early) and black underneath. Sea - cold, cloudy and full of hidden rocks, so please be careful when going into the sea. Best place to swim is along to the right hand side of the 'horseshoe' - fewer stones and rocks there.
I did enjoy my week there, (returned home today, 6th May 2008)
but two weeks would be far too long. No mirror above the dressing table girls, so if you want to do your hair/makeup whilst your partner is using the bathroom, best take a hand held or small mirror. No tea making facilities, so best take a travelling kettle if you like an early morning cuppa on the balcony. Plenty of towels, freely given out and exchanged for beach and pools, so no need to pack any.
Would I go again? No, but this is just beacuase I like my sand white and sea clear and turqoise, so it is off to Barbados for me next year!
Hope the above is of some use and help.

“HELLO AGAIN”

Cleopatra Palace Hotel

Have just got back from another fantastic week in the Mara Nostrum Resort. Spent a week there in December 2007 and loved it so much sent my daughter there in Jan, 2008, then took myself and hubby back in April 2008.
What can I say, only I will return there again before this year is out. I was a bit put out when I arrived at the Cleopatra Palace and was told we were booked into the Julias Ceaser. But it was great, plenty of room, very clean, staff excellent, food and swiming pool excellent as well.
The night life is lovely, and great to be able to walk around in comfort, no-one trying to push time-share ect;. The weather was great, even the strong sands that were there for two days of our holiday.
To cap it all we were allowed to hold onto our room untill 5pm. on the day of our departure for just 30euro, which made it so much easier for us for traveling .
Once again thank you to all the lovely staff at the Cleopatra-Julias Ceasar, I will definately be back.

“Good location”

Cleopatra Palace Hotel

Just returned from a 9 night stay, in a suite on the top floor (room 8420).

The hotel itself is part of the Mare Nostrum Resort, which encompasses the Julio Ceasar, Med Palace, Mark Anthony etc.

The location is the reason we booked. The hotels mentioned above form a "square" around a large roman-themed swimming pool, with the pyramid on the main street side (this is where musicals and the like take place).

The Cleopatra is the hotel that borders the beach and walkway, therefore if you request a 'beachview' room, you get a really nice vista of the large man-made beach and walkway.

The hotel decor is mostly marble floors and lots and lots of mirrors and black tiles (in an eighties kind of way), but is absolutely spotless throughout.

Our room was in the top left corner and the balcony was 3 times the usual size with a plunge pool and shower incorporated (4th floor), It had a very nice view of the beach and also into the distance.

The rooms themselves are a little dated (as is the hotel decor itself) but very spacious (separate living room with sofabed for the 2 children) and bedroom and a large bathroom.

The staff at the hotel are one of the resorts plus points. From concierge to cleaner to maintainence men, they are all friendly, courteous and knowledgable. The rooms are spotless, sheets changed every 2 days, rooms cleaned etc every day like clockwork.

The pool area was a subject of disapointment however. I appreciate we went in the Easter Hols, but sunbeds were reserved from 6am onwards and fully occupied by 9. The pool area is marble and steps everywhere and although i appreciate the no running rule for little children, my two kids (3 and 5 year olds) were not allowed to jump in, run anywhere, dive in, play ball or play roughly/loudly which i though was a little steep! bearing in mind this is advertised as a 'family' resort.

The pool in the other part of the hotel is larger, however the same rules apply and this one was sea-water and freezing cold! (the main one is heated).

We stayed on a b&b basis and breakfast is served on the ground floor in the 'atrium'. This was really good. The spread was varied, of good quality, and most importantly there was lots of space to sit and move around. The whole area was very relaxing (how often do you travel during peak periods and have a bun-fight trying to get something to eat).

The resort itself has undergone refurbishment and updating over the last 6 years or so and this area (by the Safari shopping centre with the fountains and along past the Villa Cortez ) are more upmarket and stylish than further West in the resort (i.e. down towards Veronicas).

In summary, the Hotel is a good 4 star but i wouldnt give it 5, i would save 5 stars for The Villa Cortez down the road which we stayed at last year, however 5 stars comes at a price and this is where the Cleopatra is obv. a better deal if you are on a budget.

For restaurants, the best we ate at were in the Safari Centre (by the main fountain show) on the 1st floor. The Slowboat Teppanyaki (chinese and Japanese cuisine) was really good and fully booked for the 9 nights we were there, and Biancos Italian which is next door and serves really good authentic food. Further afield Mamma Rosa's (not far from Parque 1) is worth a visit and its been there for years and is still going strong.

Just returned from a week's stay at the Cleopatra. We booked two standard rooms with pool view (that were relatively small and basic but well maintained) - what we actually got was a car park directly in front of our balcony, although we could actually see the pool in the distance(!). We did ask to be moved, but apparently the hotel was fully booked. Many rooms have nice views but if view is important to you, then opt for a room with a seaview. The hotel is based in a complex shared with (3?) other hotels. There are lots of beds by the various hotel pools either in the sun or shade, guests can use any one of these at any time. There is also a very nice clean beach at the front of the hotel with a number of beds at a cost of 4 euros each per day. Breakfast was well organised and plentiful with a huge choice of food and drink, and the pool bars served nice fresh salads and snacks at lunch-time We didn't have dinner in the hotel although there were a number of restaurants to choose from. The complex is served by an animation team and childrens club for those wishing to be entertained (dance lessons, football, evening shows), but only if you want it. The location of the hotel is such that it is surrounded by numerous restaurants and cafe bars, serving excellent quality meals in very pleasant and often cosmopolitan surroundings. It is also central to numerous shops and boutiques to suit every budget and taste.
In our opinion this is a very nice beautifully built 4 * rated hotel, very clean with nice friendly staff in the perfect location. However, it lacks certain touches that you would expect from a 5* hotel. If you are looking for an ideal base for a great holiday, then you can be confident in choosing this hotel whether you are single, couples or families. If you are looking for the ultimate in pampered luxury however, then we would suggest one of the 5* hotels in Costa Adeje.

We have just returned from a week in Tenerife at the Cleopatra Hotel. We have not been to Tenerife for over 20 years and were reluctant to go back. However after reading some good reviews on this hotel we decided to book. We were not disappointed.

The location was fabulous, right on the sea front, close enough to bars and restaurants to try a different one each night, but far enough away not to be disturbed by them. I was amazed at all the designer shops in the vicinity, definitely a different experience to the last time we went.

We had wanted to book a superior room but they didn't have any available (it is a large hotel so this tells you something). However our room was absolutely fine, the beds were comfortable, the room was very clean and it had a large bathroom. It also had an excellent shower. Housekeeping were at your door within minutes of any requests being made for extra pillows, towels etc. The only downside was the room was on the dark side and as our room didn't get any sun and as it gets dark by 7pm at this time of year we permanently had the lights on.

We booked bed and breakfast because we wanted to try the surrounding restaurants and I have to say the breakfast was the best provided by any hotel I have ever stayed in. There was even champagne available every morning which was a fab way to start the day. They even provided food for people with special requirements (like diabetes, or gluden free) which was a bonus.

I would definitely go back to this hotel and the resort in general, in summary it was very clean, very efficient and customer service was very good.
