We went through the RCI timeshare, myself and hubby and kids aged 2 and 4. So with this in mind every single apartment was either up or down stairs and this was very awkward coming home with a sleeping child in a buggy at 10pm. Hubby had to carry pushchair each time and broke it in the end doing so.
However, this aside when we entered the hotel lobby I had a good feeling about it. The decor was lovely. The staff were efficient but not always over friendly, although others bent over backwards to be pleasant. Arrived late at night, so no porter and weren't even shown to our room. The apartment was well equipped, good size balcony, bathroom, bedrooms and living area. There were plenty of amenities required for a small family. Only thing I missed having was a dishwasher! I also found they only cleaned what they could see, lots of fluff under the beds and I found belongings from previous tenant, showing they can't really be looking too hard under there. Tiled floor was a bit grubby too. Bedding was a bit musty. Also only 1 extra pillow available, when we both needed one. But beds were firm, which was good. Clean towels every day and they did smell fresh but toilet smelt a bit widdly, not nice!
We found the majority to be German. They were notorious for hogging sun loungers by putting towels down at 6am and not coming back til the afternoon!
Lovely pool, pool bar, mini market on site etc. no problems there. The food was ok actually, surprisingly. Breakfasts were really good, we ate 6 our of 7 days there - excellent variety and really had our fill and good price. Dinner we only had once and was average really.
Hotel entertainment was LAME. There was the same bloke performing 3 of the nights on his yamaha keyboard. A magic show one night, which was poor but the best of the bunch. Another night was an eagle show that we missed because it started early! There was a snake show, which was ok.
Be warned, if you hire a car, parking is dire. There is no dedicated parking at all so you have to park on the street. Also the hotel is situated 300m from the beach, but 300m of steep hill, so was a bit tough for us with the kids, but we coped.
If you take the left fork down from the hotel there is a lovely restaurant called Gran Reserva. If you take the right fork there is a good restaurant called Tony Roma's. The other restaurants are pretty lame but you get a good view of the coast. Also a good english brekkie to be had at Bentley's along the parade. Be wary of all the people trying to sell you crap watches, sunglasses or jewellery and all the women wanting to braid your hair. It gets very annoying.
2 sun loungers on Fanabe beach is 13 euros. Average meal for family of 4 was 80 euros.
If you do hire a car and can get to Los Cristianos go to the restaurant alongside the habour called Las Velas. It's lovely.
