I stayed here on the recommendation of the company I was meeting with for the week because of the hotel's close proximity to its office. When the cab pulled up gto the place, my first thought was that it did not look like a hotel, but rather a factory.
While getting checked in, I looked around the "lobby" which was grey, dimmly lit, and had an exposed air conditioning unit and duct on the ceiling. The desk staff was pleasant and took the time to point the direction of the free gym, the restaurant, and elevators. I went upstairs and navigated through the narrow, winding hall and found my room.
The room itself was disappointing. It was narrow and small. The amount of furniture inside made it difficult to move freely about. The floor, walls and ceiling were done in a "stained" grey concrete finish. The ceiling had exposed metal and PVC piping and the bathroom was simply a section of the room divided off with some drywall and a sliding door, leaving a 2 foot section near the ceiling open to the rest of the room. The decor was kind of Avant Garde and the lighting was dark. My room had a window facing out to the pool area where they played music at night. The walls were not very insulated as I could hear the music and even the person in the room next to me taking a shower. The concrete walls and floor made the room very cold and adjusting the thermostat did little to help. The floors were also very slippery especially in the bathroom and bathroom towels did not dry out when hung up.
Although the hotel has a shuttle, if you don't have a car, you are pretty much stuck at the hotel. You can call a cab but I found the cabs to be a ripoff at about $75 to go the 20 miles from the DWF airport to the hotel when I got there. The restaurant was decent, although the chairs were uncomfortable and the set up is more conducive to a lounge than a dining establishment.
The housekeep staff did a terrific job. The room was always immaculate when I came back from my meetings and the free WiFi and free bottled water was a nice touch.
I paid a discounted rate for the room which was a considerable savings but the NYLO is not worth its regular price. I won't go out of my way to stay there again. If I was meeting with the company again at their Plano location, it would be silly not too because of the location but that is the only reason why I'd return.
