We stayed at the Sandcastle for three nights (Thursday - Sunday) for our friend's wedding, on the beach at this location.
The pluses: GREAT location. We stayed on the 5th floor, when I walked into our room and had a gorgeous view of the beach, it literally melted all stress I had accumulated during our 7 hours drive down. The walk to the beach took less than 5 minutes. There was also a very lovely pool available at the hotel site. The rooms, as they are condominiums, are all different. We stayed in 527, and it was quite nice. It was very clean, tile floors, small fridge, stove, microwave, kitchen necessities. There was also a tv with dvd/video combo built in.
The minuses: The staff were not very knowledgable, friendly, or helpful. The young guy who took our reservation over the phone and checked us in, was ridiculous, and barely spoke a word to us... played with his tongue piercing the whole time.. yuck. Also, while this was a condo unit, I expected some hotel items to be provided. Example, as we were there for a wedding, we needed an iron which was not in the room. We were told (rather rudely) at the front desk that this required a $10 (cash ONLY) deposit... and to 'watch out, it's still hot.' Also, there were no tissues, hand soap, extra toilet paper in the rooms either. Also, when asked, neither front desk employee could recommend (or name) a good seafood restaurant on the island. The first guy said, 'you mean for like, fried shrimp? because I don't like seafood otherwise.' (to which I rolled my eyes). Come on, you work at a hotel, on the gulf, on an ISLAND. Finally they gave us a phone book to look through.
All in all the experience was good, the wedding was nice, however you're getting what you pay for as this is a pretty inexpensive place. However, it was clean, comfortable and convenient. We would stay here again, but we might shop around a little bit first.
