We travel a lot, and the "inbetween" areas can be iffy when it comes to lodging. Hotels in out-of-the-way places often price gouge or are simply not livable.
This Days Inn in Van Horn was a refreshing delight between major cities. The rooms are reasonably priced, and offer plenty of perks.
Checking in was simple. The girl working the front desk had her 2-year-old in the office area with her. He was very playful, and she had to stop a couple of times to keep him from getting into too much trouble. As we take our preschooler to work with us, this wasn't a problem. Some review readers may be annoyed by the realities of things like bringing a little one to work.
We stayed in a 2 Double bed room (115). It was quite spacious, and very clean. The a/c wasn't on when we arrived, which made me nervous, but it cooled quickly, and within an hour, the room was practically arctic. We also had a micro/fridge unit - always a plus.
Nice 32" flatscreen TV, plenty of variety in the channels. Cartoon Network & Disney for the kiddo.
The beds & pillows were soooooo comfy. No one wanted to get up in the morning!
There were some rust stains around both sink & tub faucets, but that was the only thing that even looked dirty. Bath/shower good. Nothing to write home about, but not a wimpy shower, either.
Breakfast was above average for a Days: the usual cereal & bagels, coffee, juice, Texas-shaped waffle irons, and EGGS! The premade scrambled patty variety, which melt in your mouth (my favorite - not a fan of hardboiled). It made for a hearty beginning to the final leg of our Alabama-to-Arizona trip.
My one complaint about the hotel as a whole is that many things were not placed intuitively. The micro/ fridge was behind the bathroom door, so at first we didn't see it even though we had reserved a room with one. The ice machine is in front of the lobby, but the drink machine is centered between the buildings. In the breakfast area, the plates are tucked in a corner next to the waffle iron, instead of with the silverware & napkins. Nothing was unfindable, just these few things were not where one would normally expect. I'm sure there are good reasons (power outlet placement, etc.) for the awkwardness, and it's certainly not a big enough complaint for me to give a poor rating!
Okay...maybe I have two complaints: we were only able to stay for one night! This hotel is going on the "favorites". We'll be back next time we're passing through.
