“Wonderful place and great emergency help”

We recently had a serious auto accident in a remote area called the Valley of the Gods. My husband and I were uninjured, but the car rolled 360 degrees and was totalled and undriveable. Some kind folks driving by took us to nearby Mexican Hat and the San Juan Inn. The accomodations were clean, quiet and comfortable. Most importantly, the staff made a very unpleasant situation so much better! From the moment we arrived, still in shock from the accident, the gentleman behind the check-in desk, Larence Leber, helped us deal with everything in a caring and efficient manner. They kept the on-site restaurant open past the usual time to provide us and our rescuers with a delicious dinner. The next morning, Larence drove us to a nearby town to empty the rest of our property from our car, and then he drove us approximately 130 miles to an airport in Farmington, New Mexico, the nearest location where we could rent a car. He waited while the rental was completed, and helped load all of our stuff from his vehicle into the rental car. Thank you, Larence and the rest of the staff at the San Juan Inn! We'll come back sometime to fully enjoy your motel and beautiful location.

We used to live in Monument Valley. Whenever we travel back out there to see friends we stay at the San Juan. It isn't overpriced and it's quiet. If you want fancy.. go for Gouldings or Hampton Inn in Kayenta. San Juan offers comfortable rooms, beds, good food and a great view at a fraction of the cost. We like to spend money on 'fun' not the room!! Gypsy

The San Juan Inn is located in Mexican Hat, sitting on a precipice that overlooks a gorge through which the San Juan river flows. The Inn offers fairly comfortable rooms, and also includes a café and a trading post (gift shop). We found our room to be quite clean and comfortable and the man running the office was very cordial and friendly.

The café was closed when we visited, but in the morning they did offer pastries and weak coffee, which were not complimentary to hotel guests. The San Juan Inn has a beautiful view and is located very conveniently for trips to Monument Valley and the Valley of the Gods. Across the San Juan river is the Navajo nation. The Inn sells beer, which the reservation has banned.

It is what it is, a motel with rooms opening out onto the car park. However it is well situated by a river with an adequate restaurant next door. Situated right next to the entance to Navajoland and within a few minutes drive of the main sites in Monument Valley. The rooms are not the biggest but we had a peaceful night here.

Stayed here for two nights in October 2006. Room was small with just one double bed, and a shower in the bathroom - no bath. However it was spotlessly clean and very quiet. The location is very cool - in the middle of the desert right by the San Juan river. The diner served great breakfasts and dinner, and the staff there were extremely friendly and fun. We have really fond memories of our stay here and would highly recommend it if you're visiting Monument Valley and the other sights nearby.
