“Good but a few issues!”

Stayed here for 4 nights while skiing at Deer Valley and although the hotel was fine, they do have a few issues to work on to improve service. I agree with the other reviews.....the staff is very young BUT they are working very hard. Valet was perfect, always having our car ready to go. Check in, no issues at all. We had a mini suite which is quite spacious but beds and pillows could be more comfortable. Housekeeping does a great job and are very quick to respond on any requests for additional pillows/blankets. The restaurant, Shcnietters's is very good....excellent breakfast buffet and the nightly dinner buffets were really outstanding. Staff seemed attentive but not intrusive. Ok, there big issue is the casual restaurant, Matty's. We ate there a few times and the wait staff is very, very inexperienced. One evening, we waited at our table for 20 minutes before I tracked someone down to wait on us. Several tables were very unhappy and some even walked out. We waited over an hour for our food. I even went to the front desk since they did not have a manager working in this very busy but small restaurant. They said they would find a manager......they never did. It is a shame as the food is quite good. Several of the wait staff seemed quite overwhelmed. I think they are close to getting right but if they would simply step it up a notch.

“Nice & Swissy”

Zermatt Resort & Spa

9 Feb 2008

My husband and I booked our stay as a belated anniversary celebration. Having worked in the luxury hotel industry, I was curious to see how Zermatt fared. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. Here are the details:

Aesthetics: A very nice and new resort which is quite large and sprawling. They've really taken the Swiss theme to heart, but as Midway has Swiss roots it shouldn't be any real surprise.

Staff: Generally helpful and (as a few reviews have stated) young. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as I think young hospitality workers are generally more enthusiastic and able to better stomach guest tantrums and/or dramatics. The agents were friendly but seemed unsure of the check-in procedures. One of the agents answered the phone as I was speaking mid-sentece to her. Despite the fact that a symposium was going on (after all, it is a conference hotel), we weren't disturbed by any excessive crowds or noise. We received a welcome call and each time we phoned down to the operator we were greeted with, "How may I help the ______ party?"

Bell Services: Upon arrival the valet was a bit slow to approach us. However, he made up for it by escorting us to the front desk and introducing us to the agent by name. Later on we called to have our car brought up and it was ready and waiting when we arrived at the front door.

Room: Very comfortably appointed. There was free coffee and hot chocolate (Swiss Miss, of course), feather pillows, flat screen tv, etc.

Wellness Center: We booked a couples massage in the couples suite. Our masseuses were friendly and attentive and our 60 minute treatments were divine. Only complaint is that the room is not soundproof and we could hear other guests entering/exiting the locker rooms. The gym has a variety of up-to-date equipment and large picture windows. There is a joint steam room as well as separate steam rooms/saunas in the respective locker rooms. Locker rooms were clean and well stocked with complimentary toiletries (mouthwash, lotions, hairspray, etc.).

Pool: Indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs. Underwater passageway connects indoor and outdoor area. My husband loved that. Again, locker rooms were clean and fully stocked.

Bakery: Enjoyed delicious fruit danishes--I highly recommend the bakery to any pastry lover!

Gift Shop: Small and typical but nice. Many Zermatt souvenirs, Utah memorabilia and standard gift shop merchandise.

Dining Services: We chose to eat outside of the hotel. However, in-room dining menu looked appealing enough and had the typical prices of a hotel.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. I'd advise my fellow Tripadvisors to beware of the scathing reviews from other guests. It amuses me how shocked some previous guests have been when encountering prices (it's a hotel, people; expect mark-ups) or service mishaps. It's been my experience that those guests who complain the loudest are generally people looking for freebies. While the resort is not quite the Ritz-Carlton it is a comfortable and enjoyable stay nonetheless.

“Swiss resort? Are you kidding me?!”

Zermatt Resort & Spa

28 Jan 2008

I travel a bit for work therefore I am no stranger to a number of corporate hotels and resorts. I was staying for a week at Zermatt Resort and Spa during Sundance 2008. My experience overall was terrible for the following reasons:
1) Night of arrival I went to the Swiss restaurant after front desk person made a reservations for me. When I arrived at the restaurant I was immediately asked if I had a reservation although there was only one table occupied in the whole restaurant. I have been to Switzerland a few times before so please don't try to sell the restaurant as Swiss. There was nothing on the menu that was remotely Swiss and the food overall was expensive and just OK.
2) First morning I waited in freezing weather for over 15 minutes for someone to get my car.
3) Same morning. Went to the bakery to get some coffee. It took them 20 minutes to brew fresh pot and the baked goods menu was limited to a muffin.
4) Next morning I called the front desk to get my car so I would have to wait in cold weather for it. I get downstairs and the car is not there. Another 15 minute wait!!! I proceed to the bakery and they run out of coffee again. So, I wait another 10 minutes for a new pot.
The list goes on....
The service at this location was very poor and I will not be coming back to this resort. Please be aware of this Swiss wanta be compound.

Best,
:)

“The Zermatt Resort and Spa”

Zermatt Resort & Spa

25 Jan 2008

Ok.. well here goes.. My 12 year old daughter and I stayed during the Sundance Film Festival 08'. Joshua helped us in reservation over the phone. We got a package "deal" 3nights 4th night free with $100 hotel credit for about $875. We paid a roundtrip shuttle fee from the airport to the resort of about $140 not including drivers tip and it was about an hour ride. Once we got to the resort we were greeted by a bellman /boy that was about 20.. kinda cute seeing he was dressed like a German kid with stockings and all. Very friendly girls at the check-in they were about 20 as well. He walked us to the room with our luggage but it was at least a 10 min walk and had to exit the resort to walk into the other bldg to get to the villas. My daughter thought it was an adventure..I was freezing.Once we got there the bellboy patiently waited for his tip. Fireplace in the living room and pull out sofa. With a king size bed in the bedroom (not Marriott bed so don't get your hopes up) kitchen and jet tub with separate shower. The room service was ok just some pizza and wings $35.00 20%tip included. The shuttle drove us 2 blocks to a 40 min $50 sleigh ride. Not worth $50 bucks but O well it was entertaining. Shuttle picked us back up and took us down the street to 7-11 to buy a phone card, some cereal and milk and eggs. Whatever, we were on a budget. The next day we were shuttled to the Canyons (45 min) to go snowboarding where we did the all day lesson thing $200 the instructor was at least 70. That was a joke and we ended up being refunded. Shuttled back to the resort and the driver was nice enough to take me by the liquor store to buy some wine(6 bucks, at the resort it was 39) We ate the all you can eat seafood buffet on the property 75 bucks it was filling. Not much flavor but it was a buffet and the dress was casual to semi-casual. Back to the room to make phone calls and accidentally forgot to use the phone card ($25 mistake for 6 mins) The room was cleaned and the Swiss miss hot chocolate packets were a nice touch as well as the starbucks coffee. The next day we did the spa 1 hour $90 each. Now this was weird. We check in on one floor, was given robes and slippers (if you have size 10 feet don't expect them to fit you) and was escorted into the elevator to another floor to receive the massages. One guy one girl so of course my kid took the lady. (Diff rooms so I had a hard time enjoying my massage worrying about her, she bragged how good it was..whatever..) So now after the massages, back up the elevator, change, back down the elevator and outside to get to our rooms. Kinda spoiled it for me. Stayed in room all day and ordered in. 2Chicken salad, wings and fries $60. 3rd day we went tubing, about a 15 min shuttle ride $18 2hr session. p.p. Fun,Fun,Fun and they had lifts. Yippee!! Back to the resort we walked over to Homestead Crater to see the Hot Springs where others were scuba diving then we were again shuttled 45 min to Main Street 6pm to sight see. I mean it was Sundance after all. We caught a glimpse of Paris and One of the Olsen twins. Wanted to eat sushi at the Happy Sumo which was closed for a private party. (sucked) Took pics with TMZ's finest and was scheduled to be picked up at 10pm but was half frozen by 8 so took the early shuttle back which comes every 2hours almost. Hit with a snow storm overnight and ready to be back in Miami, I was nervous about making our flight home.. Flights were grounded and spent 23hrs in 2 airports but hey..We made it back. Room was 95% cleaned most nights; food was edible, gift shop on property a bit pricey, people friendly and willing to assist. Resort isolated but nice and plus you have shuttle service to mostly everywhere. At check-out the final bill was incorrect (by $500) but after I brought it to their attention it was resolved. Overall~Nice but we've stayed in better for less.

“Skip the Zermatt”

Zermatt Resort & Spa

24 Jan 2008

My husband and I stayed at the Zermatt Resort & Spa during a ski weekend in January. We chose the resort after examining its website. We enjoy European travel and have an affection for Disney, so we thought we'd give it a try. The photos far exceed the actual accommodations at Zermatt. While our room was average and clean, an overwhelming feeling of tackiness was inescapable. This would have been fine, had we been able to communicate with the staff. The single most frustrating part of our stay was the customer service. We attempted to order baked goods on two separate occasions at the "gourmet" bakery. The first time, the staff was unaware of how to make a cup of black tea, even though they boast a menu board chock full of lattes and cappuccinos. The second time, we ordered two everything bagels, waited 15 minutes, and opened up a bag to find two plain bagels. As much of the staff does not speak English and discussion was became exasperating, we soon found it easier to just eat elsewhere. Next time we come to the area we will stay elsewhere as well.
